So I turned on my computer recently and it comes up that its "checking NVRAM." I left my computer on all night and it was still checking it the next morning. It's so strange because I use my computer everyday and it normally bypasses this. My computer's 7 years old so I'm maybe thinking that it's ran out of batteries. Perhaps it's forgotten how to turn on? I'll be so devastated if it's time for me to get a new computer =(

That is one of the strangest places for a computer to freeze!
I think you should open the case and try to clear the CMOS. If the bios battery were low, it should still start fine... but it might have a very strange date and time causing the computer to be confused.
Worse case is your bios got corrupted and you're pretty much screwed unless you can find a way to do a bios recovery which is specific to brands and only occasionally works.
The BIOS is what you see when you turn on the computer. It stands for Basic in out system (I think) and it finds your computer hardware and prepares it before it starts loading windows. Without it, your computer is just a circuit board... ._. it brings life to the computer
Unless the nvram message is from the video card... but I think its not likely

Will clearing the CMOS wipe out what I have on the computer?
Sorry, I'm computer illiterate.
