I started getting annoying pop-ups even when I wasn't browsing around...so I decided to delete my temp files, history, and cookies...but the pop ups were still popping up!!! A random file downloaded to my desktop, so I just sent it to the trash bin and emptied the bin.
I ran adaware personal 2007 just a few hours ago on my desktop to get rid of the pop ups...and it found a virus...so I removed it. And adaware said that it couldn't remove "files" (it didn't specify)..and that it would have to remove on the next start...
So I turned off the computer, taking the advice from a friend and turned it on in safe mode...Adaware didnt say anything about removing those "files" when I turned on my comp...and so I ran the program again in safemode, and it found 3 critical files...and so I removed it.
And so...I turned off my computer again...and turned it back on......and BAWAHAMMM!!!!! my Internet doens't work........................I checked my modem...everything is lighted up properly...so did the virus removal process I followed somehow tricked my computer into thinking it's not connected to the world wide web???
Everytime I try to connect to msn messenger, or just type in a url...it doesn't work! "Page not found" and "no connection!"
ahh!!!
please please help..!! I really like using my desktop instead of laptop...
THANK YOU VERY VERY MUCH in advanceee!!!!
THANKKKSSSSSS AGAINNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!

What happened is when you deleted the "critical files" the files happened to be important for your internet to work. Basically you broke windows... well the spyware/viruses did by taking over a file. Most likely they saw a important file... lets say networkSetup.dll and replaced it with their own version that works... but has extra stuff in it like monitor what websites you visit and log what you send on MSN.
There are a few things you can do, but off the bat I want you to go to do a System Restore, Start>Programs> Accessories> System Tools> system Restore.
Restore it to before you did the fix... perhaps to a date before the spyware/virus problem started.

I did system restore twice.
The first time, to one day before...and it still didn't work.
So I restored it to the earliest date available for
August, so August 2nd. And it still doesn't work. So please tell me what I should do next!!
Thank you!!

Cry.
And hope someone comes up with a better idea than mine which would be a Windows XP repair install (not a format, REPAIR install)

If you could find the names of the files that would be very helpful. There should be a log of the virus scan and what files were "infected" and "removed." So after you find out what those files were, I'm sure there's a website somewhere that let's you download missing .dll files. OR you could just take those missing .dll from your desktop and copy them onto a flash drive or something and replace them. Good luck.
