Hi everyone. I have a few questions that I have trouble finding the answer to or need help on.

Okay, so I think my laptop might be going through a screen burnout, if that's what you call it. It's kind of blinking a little every time I use it. Can anyone clarify if that's what it looks like when a laptop screen starts to burnout? It bothers me because I'm worried that it'll blackout one day.

My second question is that I hooked up an external monitor to my laptop and I want to know if there is a way that I can just use that monitor instead of my laptop's one? I know how to extend my desktop and all, but for some reason I can't change the primary monitor. The option is always grayed out and I can't select it. Is there a way to get around this so that I can use my external monitor instead so that I can leave my laptop monitor off? And if I do manage to switch my primary monitor, will my laptop monitor go back to being primary once I unplug my external monitor?

Please help me if anyone can. I'm so desperate at the moment that it's not even funny. Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure what a screen burnout looks like, but if your your laptop should have a dedicated button on the keyboard for switching to an external screen. Usually it's the Fn in combination with one of the F# buttons on the top. But otherwise, you can right click on the desktop, click on properties. Then go to the settings tab, then there should be an option for "Use this device as my primary monitor" and "Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor." Click on the big number 2 (or whichever one your external monitor is) and leave the first one checked and the 2nd option unchecked.

Thanks for the help. I tried doing what you said, but I still can't get it to work. When I go to Display Properties and follow what you said, the box for the primary screen is still gray.
Here's a screenshot of what it looks like.

I also tried out the Fn button and I got this.

Which one do I select and how do I select it? I tried clicking on the last option, but I can't click on anything.

Oh, then just have the monitor 2 selected then uncheck the "extend my windows desktop onto this monitor.

Press and hold the Fn while pressing the F# key repeatedly until the last option is selected.
