Please keep in mind, before I ALWAYS had free bare boned nokia phones. 2 to be exact over a span of like 5 years. I love the e840 a lot. The mirrored surface is gorgeous, and overall it's just sexy. The E840 does have a mirrored surface like the LG Shine. When you have the phone closed, the screen will turn off. There is no option to make the screen stay on, besides extending the background light time. When you open it back up, the screen will turn on and show whatever missed calls, messages, and etc. The light outside does sort of kill the screen, but there is a sunlight mode which solves that problem. It's not that big of a problem.
The clarity of the call is great! You can make the volume go up or down with the button above the power button, on the left side of the phone. You can silence by the # button. The wallpaper feature, you can zoom up (by the same button for volume) and basically "crop" the picture to how you want it to appear on your wallpaper.
It'll show what provider you are using, but you can get rid of that by going into display settings and turning off idle text. I don't know if that is such a big deal, but I wanted the ugly AT&T to go away lol.
The sliding is perfect, not too strong or weak. The touch sensitive buttons are NOT bad at all! When you have the phone slid down the touch sensitive buttons are locked, so you won't be touching any buttons on accidents or any of those worries. The touch buttons are even locked when you make a call. To unlock you simply press the center button in the 'square'. When you have the phone slid up you can also lock the touch buttons by pressing the power button once. Not to mention, you have to hold onto the power button for a while before it shuts off. So no worries about your phone going on and off.
The camera is decent, I am not an expert on camera phones. This is my first camera phone, so it has a camera I'm happy. To take the fullest advantage of the 2MP, take pictures in the sunlight.
The music play back is DARRRN good to me. The renaming of songs is a bit weird though. When you rename ® appears at the beginning of the name, and you have to erase that before saving. By the way, to delete text it's the call cancel button. Also for ! , . - and etc you press the 1 button. The radio is really great too! The only thing I have a problem with is you have to have the earphones plugged in to listen. You don't have to listen with the earphones but you have to have it plugged in for it to work. It tells you the song, singer, and radio station. The volume matches the volume of a nokia phone. Really loud. The voice recorder you can record up to one hour.
You can assign each caller their own ringtone~~ and you can put a video for when they call instead of just a picture ^^
I find the T9 predictive text a bit annoying, but I think you guys are more experts on texting than me so I don't know. Also there is like 21 free ring tones that come with that phone and a couple wallpapers.
When I used the keypad at first, I wasn't sure if I pressed the right button...cause the keypad is so smooth. I have small hands too. Bigger hands might have a problem with the keypad? You get use to it.
Unfortunately there is no cell phone strap >_< I just put my old straps in the pictures for decoration D;
The back cover is hard to pop off, and maybe becuase I'm not an expert on phones but the place for the SD card was puzzling. It points to where you should put it, but when I first tried a couple times it didn't go. You have to use a bit more force~~ don't worry it won't break. I'll put up pics later.
Here is a quick size comparison of the phone:

The weight and feel of the phone is solid. Finger prints aren't a problem. It actually looks better without a screen protector. The screen protector is more prone to finger prints than the actual mirror surface itself! or well maybe prone isn't the right word. Finger prints are less noticeable on the phone than the screen protector.
I think this is supposedly a half mp3 and half phone type of phone. I saw an picture of the e840 with the phone half mp3 player so yeah! It comes with earphones you can plug into your phone and listen to music. You can also put mp3 on the phone and let it play with the phone slid closed. You can change the volume to be louder or softer with the button above the power button on the left of the phone, without having to slide the phone open. This is also a quad band phone so it should work with any service provider ^^ ...meaning yes, it's an unlocked phone.
The biggest downside to this phone is ........the battery life sucks. Even after fully charging it for 8 hours (which you need to do with a new phone), it only lasted three days of light use.
For time you can use 24 hours or 12 hours. You can change how you want the mm/dd/yyyy organized and a couple clock styles.
I love the Samsung SGH-E840! I think this is the best unlocked slider out there right now for the specification, looks, performance, and most importantly - price. If you have any other questions or concerns, just PM me and I'll answer it via pm and here
