15 is pretty much standard... Most freshmans do 15 although I do know some who did 12-13. I am doing 18.
I want her everywhere and if she's beside me
I know I need never care
But to love her is to need her everywhere
Knowing that love is to share

I am only taking 13, I am thinking of adding another class, just to have something to do.. my adviser was not real helpful when I asked him, about how many I should take. But my advisor's at my CC, always told me no more than 12 credit hours.. maybe it was because they just wanted us to be full-time students and really didn't care..

This will be my first adventure in a real university setting.. so even I am not sure how many is a good number..

i started with 16 my first quarter of college. i think it's good to do the mandatory amount of units to be qualified for whatever status student you are and plus one class on top of that.....to see if u can handle more. cuz if not, you can always drop the extra class and you'll still be a full time student. =)
go on and say it
u need me like a bad habit

i did 18.5 credits, but 15 is a good number. freshman year is a good time to explore so sign up for that extra elective that sounds interesting to you and just drop it if it ends up being boring

I added another class, so now I am up to 16 credit hours.. I wanted to take something in computers, but in order for me to fulfill my major requirements I needed to take another soc. science..

I am going to stop there, cause I can only go up to 19 credit hours.. and all the good classes are already closed >.<

I'm only doing 15 credits. Did 8 credits already in the summer. 1 elective and 1 gen ed. So I could probably do 13 credits if I like. For me I want to finish ASAP haaha =)

So, a unit would be a semester hour, am I correct? How many semester hours should you have if you're a full-time student?

A full time student at my university would have to have a minimum of 12 credit hours. Max is 18.

I know some schools do it different.

I honestly don't know what the equivalent number of credit hours for my schedule would be at an American school (I think 15 because that's five classes, right? I'm American, but I chose a Canadian school) but I'm taking the recommended five classes instead of the maximum six, and I think that's gonna be plenty because I just counted and I'll theoretically be spending 20 hours in classes a week because of all the lab practicals and tutorials for my science and math classes and I've been told by people who've gone before me at my uni that the first year for life sciences students can be killer when it comes to out-of-class workload, too.

So while it may sound like a great idea to get ahead my first year, I'm more interested in giving myself a better chance to do as well as possible than I am as much as possible. I'd like to fit another elective in, but I'd rather not this year and then fit in extra classes the following years if I think I can handle it. And as for taking only four classes (the min. for full-time status), I don't want to have to play catch-up later to get my requirements done.
Hey, look! Finally a different signature after all these years!

at my college you have to get at least 32 credits by the end of the year to consider going into sophomore status, so if you want to become a soph your second year, you have to take either 16:16 or 15:17. Unless you want to really lay back and don't care much about when you graduate then at least take 12, to consider as a full time student.

But for first year, it is best for 15. Not too much. You can always make up the missing credit during summer or just take more credit the next coming year.

13-15 credits. Freshman classes aren't very hard but it depends what you take.

Somewhere around 15 or 16 is pretty normal for a full-time student.

15 units is good. It also depends on the difficulty of the classes & if you have to put in extra time for labs, study groups, etc. for the classes.

I took 16 units first semester and 18 units second semester. Maxiumum at my school was 19 units, unless you wanted to talk to a counselor & add more smile.gif

If you're taking 15 units, then you should be alright. It really depends on the classes you're taking. The min for us is 12 and the max is 19 units. I took 17 for both of my semesters and my grades were decent. Well, at least I didn't get any failing grades. tongue.gif Just don't slack off, manage your time wisely and you'll be fine.
