So... I've started buying stuff for my dorm room now and I was wondering if there was something important I was leaving out.

The school provides bed, desk, closet/dresser, mini-fridge, microwave, and a desk chair.
Everything I've bought so far condenses down into basically a few big groups:

Clothes
Bathroom stuff
School Supplies

What did you guys find really necessary/helpful to have in your dorm room?
What else should I bring?

computer? Sleeping supplies? Laundry basket... I dunno, you don't really need that much anyways.

I wish my dorm room had what your dorm has already.
Hey, look! Finally a different signature after all these years!

You might want to bring a comfortable chair just in case. My old dorms gave us chairs, but they were so uncomfortable. One was made out of wood, and another was made out of plastic. My back began to ache by the third week of each semester. I'm just glad that for my first year, I used my laptop on my bed, and for my second year, my parents brought me my chair from their house. Otherwise, I never used the chairs.

You don't want to buy too much, because there is such thing as bringing too much. You'll inevitably realize that you wish you brought something, but in that case, you just go out and buy it. My suggestion is to keep a list of things you need, and then in one weekend, just grab everything you need.

Yeaaa. flip flops for the shower. If the chairs are uncomfortable, you could get a chair pillow thing and sit on that. Desk lamps? I found clip lamps were really great, saves space on your desk and you can just clip it to the edge of a bookshelf or something. Trash can. One of those water boiling pots (plastic, costs like $10 at like Bed Bath & Beyond). Good for late nights when you're lazy and you can just make ramen. Also, don't know if you got one already, but the school mattresses are probably damn uncomfortable. You should get a foam mattress pad, it'll make it much better.

Definitely flip-flops. Don't know what's going on (or growing on ewww) in the showers. Bring a lot of personal touches into your dorm. Pillows and throw blankets, some for uncomfy chairs, and some for late night trips to the library. Organizational supplies I find are really helpful to put in drawers, closets, etc... Definitely get an electric kettle and foam mattress pad like someone already said. Don't forget a first aid kit just in case, and a flashlight may prove to be useful down the line, for fun and emergencies LOL

Alarm clock
Water bottles
calendar
desk lamp
White boards can be fun
Towel rack (I know this goes in shower supplies, but make sure you have one)
Laundry hamper

Bring things you find comfort in from home, because a lot of students have trouble adjusting the first week. It even helps if you're not using entirely new blankets/mattress covers etc... just something familiar, so the change isn't too jarring.

Most of the stuff already stated as welll as

- Clothes hangers (some drawers are not that big)
- Ethernet Cord (some areas might not have wireless)
- Outlet Surge Protector (Dorm rooms don't have many outlets)
- Shower Tote ( Easier to carry your shower supplies than in your hands)

Hmm...I would suggest not buying to many things. One being that you might not end up using it all. If anything, you could always go out and buy stuff when you need it. Hope that helps =]

It's the same in my dorms with rice cookers too, it sucks but i've learned to manage with the kitchen on my floor on cooking rice on the stove. I'd recommend bringing or buying your own bedding with you.

My dorms is same as yours except for the fridge which if I want one for me room I should bring one myself. Usually, I just take my clothes, clothes hanger, bathroom stuff, slippers for the bathroom and others for the dorm itself, school stuff, sheets for the bed (I dislike using the one in the dorm), charger for my mobile, my laptop, chips, few bottles of water and alarm clock. I don't need a wireless card since the wireless signal is great in my dorms, it's excellent even when I am in my bed.

For the rice cooker though, keep in mind that some colleges do NOT allow hot water boilers and the like. So if you get caught with it, there's a chance that you may get kicked out of housing. I go to BU, and if you get caught with a hot water boiler, you get get a violation. After 3 violations, I'm out of housing for good. sad.gif
