hi sorry if there was a topic about this already sweatingbullets.gif
i'm gonna be a freshmen there and i'm moving in next week so for those who go there can u tell me how it is. i'm thinkin that it'll be cold there all year... well, is there anything around sfsu that u can go to to hangout thats walking distance? i know theres a mall near there but other than that. do students get discounts on taking the bus? do students get discounts on anything? are there alot of international studnets that live on campus? is it boring/fun there? alot of asians there? is it close to japan town or china town? i got alot of questions so if anyone can give me the 411 on SFSU that would be great. THANKS

well im not a student there; but i live in SF; it's near the south-west area of SF; it's near a mall called stonestown; there's also a small theater there; you can also take the 28 (southbound) busline to daly city for a bigger movie theater and eateries; there's also a library across the street (merced library); the school is also near lake merced; it's no where near japantown or chinatown; but you can easily take any lightrail (inbound) to chinatown; or take the 28 (northbound) and transfer at geary to take the 38 (eastbound) to japantown

there's also lakeshore; another plaza place; a bit beyond stonestown though; but shouldn't take that long to get there by walking

there's no discounts on MUNI that i know of for students; but you can save by getting a fastpass per month instead of getting transfers everyday (adults pay $1.50 per transfer, which only lasts two hours, but with fastpass, it's only$45 a month; 17yr olds and under pay $0.50 per transfer, which also lasts two hours, but with fastpass, it's only $10 a month)

as for weather; it's mild; there's not much of a difference between summer and winter; other than day-length; but the mornings in winter might be a bit chilly (this year it was around the high 30s and 40s at 6:50am); you might also want to prepare for the rain season; it didn't pour this year; but previous years there was a lot of rain in december and march

and pretty much; you're in an area where there's a lot of asians

i think darkdragon315x answered most of your questions, but i just wanted to say that sfsu is off the shores of the pacific ocean so we'll get a lot of the wind current from there...i dropped by on July 4th in the late afternoon and it was pretty windy...but i think it all depends on where you'll be coming from...for me i'm coming from San Jose and sfsu is pretty cold to me...but if you come from somewhere like Daly City...then there really isn't much of a difference...but i don't think it'd hurt to carry around a few extra sweaters and jackets...maybe even a small blanket?...lolz...

as for the population of the school...i think you'll officially get a feel of the place if you attend the Freshmen Welcome Days this week...lolz...and i looked up the school organization directory and i saw a long list of ethic organization such as Korean, Chinese, Taiwanese, Thai, Japanese, Pilipino, etc. Associations, here's a link to the campus' organization site...lolz...i hope this helps...i'm gonna be new there too so most likely i'll be lost the first week or so...lolz...so see you around...maybe....

If you're majoring in business, you'll find a lot of Asians in that area. (Especially in the Business building) There're also quite a lot of international students in SFSU.
