so i'm going to college in 12 hours and i feel like i'm over packing my clothes by a lot
my mom said to bring ALL my hoodies 'cause i'm going to upper new york (syracuse) and it'll be super cold
and that i won't be doing my laundry as planned and she doesn't want me to smell...

so honestly, is it better to over pack or underpack on clothes if your going to a place that's cold...???
really cold...??
is it better to overpack now and then bring it back home during fall break/thanksgiving??

** i have six bags altogether (furniture, clothes, EVERYTHING) 'cause we're flying there and it's 2 bags per person so six is the limit...how many bags do people usually take??

please help i'm literally flipping out... sad.gif

--

i have 3 winter jackets (different colors, etc...they were expensive so she wants me to take all of them of course...)
2 light fall jackets (same as above)
4 jeans
2 black pants (i'm in hospitality management so i'm takin some business attire as well..blah)
2 sneakers, 3 dress shoes, 2 flip flops+ shower flops, scarves, gloves, lots of tshirts, lots of layering things
6 hoodies (what in the world...)
3 sweat pants
lots of underwear and socks

btw, i'm a girl..who likes clothes...and if clothes don't match i don't go out until they do....sigh....so remember that i'm a girl...like more of a girly girl

I don't live in a dorm, but have seen them and slept overnight once during orientation at my school. To tell you the truth, I think your ok. You'll always have your suitcase with you, so you can put the extra stuff in there.

As the saying goes, "Your mom knows best" or something like that. Every time I go to a retreat, I just let my mom control how to pack and what extra stuff I need, and I always end up using it and etc. Every time I don't listen, I'm like "oh man, I should have listened to my mom." Anyways, just don't pack way to many hoodies unless you plan on changing hoodies every single day. Remember that you are going to do laundry too.

Besides, the positive thing is you won't have to buy extra clothes and after looking at the list, even though I'm a guy, I think your a ok.

It's probably too late by now but it's good to bring just the bare necessities because it's not like you're stuck in your school and you'll never shop for more clothes -- by the end of the year if you're not careful, you'll have way too much crap (like me sad.gif)

yeah, I think you've got too much... a college student can always sacrifice hygiene for less work.

for me personally i would just pack light and BUY BUY BUY when i get to college.. (that's what i did)
But, i think you are safe. 3 jackets is cool, you won't smell.. but you don't need these jackets until like
January (if NYC weather is the same as Boston)... the coldest time is like January - Feb...

Anyways, those are fine... for SURE you will be shopping in NY, just be sure you bring a lot of dough.

what happened to normal shirts??? I just see hoodies tongue.gif But also... how often do you plan to go home?? Underwear IS A MUST. If you could... bring at least 2 months worth of undies if you can.. tongue.gif Honestly you don't need 3 winter jackets. It's not like 2/3 will break and you'll be stuck wearing the last one. Bring the one you like best and stick with it... Don't forget scarfs and mitts...

oh man, underwear is usually the limiting factor on how often you'll need to do laundry, always have plenty of undies.

Take whatever, lol. You'll always need clothes, especially upper North. It's not as cold as it USED to be, but still, it's good.

My friend also goes there ^^

uhh im goin to buffalo and flying there too, i only have 2 suitcases and 1 backpack
buffalo is colder than syracuse...if u really dont have the space just bring 1 winter jacket and when u come back for thanksgiving take ur other 2 jackets...u could also just have some stuff shipped to you later if u cant fit anything
p.s. i dont think u will have enuff closet space or drawer space if ur bring 6 suitcases

Life doesn't have to be perfect to be wonderful.
