There can be various reasons.
It can be a problem that needs to be treated, so you'd have to go to a physician.
As for me, I noticed a signifcant difference of hair loss when I just changed shampoos.
It can be something simple as you tying your hair in tight knots.
Or lack of minerals, protein, and iron, found in fish, poultry, cheese, and more. Or just a bad diet.

Don't worry, it's a really common issue. If you don't think anything's wrong, you can make your hair look thicker by using serums, volumizing shampoos, getting a body wave, etc.

It could be nutritional (protein is an important component in healthy hair) or hormonal (lowered estrogen can cause hair loss). If you're really worried, I suggest you get some testing done at your family practitioner's.

the typical baldness you see in cancer patients is from chemotherapy and is (usually) not a symptom of cancer itself.

has your diet changed much lately? if you're not eating much meat, make sure you're getting enough iron from other sources - here in australia, i've seen some iron-fortified orange juices, otherwise there's a supplement here called ferrograd-c (not sure of overseas name).
