Unfortunately, by the time Naruto got past the Naruto/Sasuke fight, the anime had already caught up to the manga (actually the manga was only slightly ahead, but even slightly is NOT GOOD AT ALL). I don't think they even started animating the 2nd series after Naruto's and Sasuke's fight, and even if they did, it didn't change the fact that the anime was already caught up to the manga, and if the anime ever went past the manga, then the animators would have done the unthinkable and made up nonsense of their own and continued with that nonsense for the remainder of Naruto, much like how they did with FMA and Kenshin (although FMA's and Kenshin's weren't bad at all, esp. FMA's). Plus, the manga is like source material for the anime; if the anime exceeded the manga, it wouldn't have a source material anymore, so it would inevitably have to make up permanent nonsense. So, in order to make sure that the manga is well ahead for the anime to continue, they pulled off what would eventually turn out to be a smart move, and made up all these useless filler stories just to kill time. REMEMBER: The time the Naruto anime started was 2002, which was two years after the manga started. The time that Naruto part 2 happened in the manga was also approximately 2 years from when Naruto Shippuuden started. As a result of that large time difference between the anime and the manga, the anime managed to go for a whopping 135 episodes before it finally caught up to the manga. I would therefore expect Naruto Shippuuden to also go for another 135 episodes just like Naruto did before it too catches up to the manga. Of course, by the time the anime caught up with the manga, the year was 2005...3 years after the anime premiered. I would also therefore expect Naruto Shippuuden to go for 3 years before it catches up to the manga.
In very short terms...the fillers were seriously retarded, but in the long run they turned out to be beneficial, because we can expect at least 3 solid years of Naruto Shippuuden that actually adheres to the story. And even if we DO get fillers again, I'm actually sort of looking forward to them, because since the show's in a different time period now, and the characters might have slightly changed in personality (if not their looks, lol), so their changes might put more of a dynamic into the show, regardless of whether it's filler or not.
In even FEWER words...we have absolutely nothing to worry about for now
Cheers.

i guess my post was kind of confusing. i know they couldn't start shippuden right after the fight but if they were gonna make everything after that fight filler and then just start a "new" series, they should have just discontinued it at the time. but of course, i guess they had to try to keep the naruto craze alive(although i think it probably hurt the franchise more than they helped it). apparently it's some kind of sin to stop a long-running popular shonen jump series until they catch up to the manga ending(well, for the most part anyway).

Although, they should have curbed the retardedness on the fillers a bit...honestly the last filler arc was the only one worth watching...and I'm not saying that just because it really was the last arc, or because Naruto finally left the village, but that there were stuff in that arc worth watching...such as Gaara and Kakashi, for one, and I really liked how they paralleled it to the Rescue Sasuke arc, where Tenten is now the one who felt left out instead of Shino, and Jiraiya comes to visit Naruto in the hospital again (and this time they actually GO). But yeah, the other ones? Pshh.
But enough dwelling on the past; Naruto Shippuuden's rocking the party!

Even if people managed to predict Kurenai as pregnant, there hasn't been any sufficient evidence to back that up other than the fact that Kurenai and Asuma were together. But just because a couple is together doesn't always result in them with a child. At best, that whole "prediction" thing is nothing more than a guess.
As for the future generation thing...I don't know if it occurred to you yet, but that's kinda one of the important themes of the show...it would be especially ludicrous if they left that out, because it was also an important element of Asuma, who finally realized just what his father lived, fought, and died for, and he wanted to make sure Shikamaru especially remembered that before...you know.

as for shippuuden...they took too long to progess the story. they threw in the sasuke part even though they're in the akatsuki arc and...it just took too long. there goes three seasons of waiting...

On another note, there is a small mistranslation in the DB sub. When Diedara's talking about they're "only going to take out a shrimp", he actually said, "the One-tail", instead of "shrimp". There are also other mistranslations like that in the ep, but they're nothing worth fussing over, really.
