And yes, that is the exact description of the current situation, hahahahaha
I actually like this arc a lot. When I read the part in the manga about the Fire Temple monks and all that when Hidan and Kakuzu were introduced, it felt like they just popped out of nowhere. The fact that Asuma all of a sudden had this emotional connection to the temple and to his father also didn't help matters much, cuz I pretty much knew what would happen to him (although that didn't make his death any less sad...). Now that we have an intro arc that builds up the fire temple monks, Asuma, and the whole Konoha-not-being-as-saintly-as people-think thing, any subsequent arcs (in particular the hidan/kakuzu arc) will be made more emotionally dramatic, (and consequently, make Asuma's already-sad death even sadder...omg). I also find it interesting that these enemies for once are not from a distant, totally-made-up village and are actually from the Land of Fire itself...serves as a decent foreshadow for several things to come, I'd say.... Furthermore, this arc allows for some more exposure of the characters that we were just barely introduced to in the previous arc, i.e. Sai, Yamato, and Danzo, and given their subsequent appearances in future arcs, I say their presence in the main storyline has been given a smoother flow. I also found Sakura's reaction to Naruto's death kiss with that girl (they may be stronger filler characters than previous ones and all, but I still can't for the life of me even remember if their names were even given so far) absolutely hilarious.
And as for that Sora character...I know he looks slightly more amicable towards the team now and all, but given how the Naruto intros always seem to divulge way too much future plot info, I highly doubt he's going to stay a good guy for long...

As much of a filler arc this was, all of the events in this story are very plausible. We touched base with Asuma, who becomes crucial later in the canon plot. The Fire Temple did exist in the manga, and all this stuff regarding the "two kings" also becomes pretty important. Furthermore, to say that it would be impossible for anyone to take hold of some Kyuubi chakra and attempt to do something else with it is kinda naive, since there are undoubtedly some people who would be dissatisfied with having to choose to follow one leader or the other. It would make sense, since now that Naruto has the Kyuubi, the Konoha unwittingly had a militarial advantage, something the Feudal Lord sympathizers would take issue with; hence they created their own imperfect jinchuuriki in an attempt to balance the power struggle. Mild allegations of Konoha's two-faced nature are also foreshadowed here. Ultimately, some things in this arc are the same things happening in past arcs over and over and over...and over again, but unlike those past arcs, this one actually holds some purpose in the main Naruto storyline. It's also interesting to see the "annoying guy at first, but becomes a friend later" stock character have a slightly different purpose near the end.
I gotta say, though, Furido as Kazuma was so totally obvious from the very beginning. I can't believe they let that revelation drag on for so long. I'm pleased, however, that the four enemies were aligned with the Rain village...a village where a certain "godlike" individual reigns. Interesting...

Damn, the first word spoken by Hidan and Kakuzu automatically made them cool, hahaha.
