Don't know where you got 40 shots for Baron Davis. The most he's ever taken is 29 shots 3 times

his point was that baron davis has a horrible field goal %, which he does. he only shot about 39% this past season.

i'm saying that their career 3 point % isn't relevant, just their most recent percentage, which is the 05-06 season. what if a player was horrible at shooting threes in the beginning of their career but got incredibly good at it in his latest season? wouldn't you try to get him regardless of how he shot in his past seasons and only look at his most recent stats?

i would also be looking at the team the player plays in than simply looking at the stats on the most recent games. joe johnson's 3 point average was like in the .470's when he was in pheonix and nash was there. then it dropped almost a tenth after he moved to atlanta. johnson's ability to shoot 3's probably havent dropped so significantly, but im sure the open looks did.

this isnt to say whichever player is better, but just thought it was unfair to judge on stats alone on who is the better shooter.

then don't shoot the ball unless you're open. if you keep chucking shots when the defender is in your face, then yeah your % is gonna go down.

If I think he gets better. Arenas shot better this past season but before last season it was Johnson and you can argue that he had Nash. So who is the better 3-point shooter you can say who you think. Gilbert could have helped team USA. But I see him better as a shooting guard than as a point and there were other players on the team who shoot the three better than Arenas.

i always saw gilbert arenas as a shoot-first type of point guard like iverson so i don't know why colangelo invited him in the first place. and about there being better shooters on the team, i'm not so sure about that. the 3 point line is a couple of feet closer so if you have a guy like shane battier(just using him as an example) who is good at hitting mid range shots in the nba but not as good at the 3 point line, your 3 point shooting will depend on what line you use.

i still don't understand the argument that a better team around you makes you a better 3 point shooter. sure you'll get more open looks but if you don't have an open look, then don't shoot it and your 3P% won't suffer.

^ that they do, that they do

anyways, how do you guys think the grizzlies will fair in the season since pau gasol is gonna be gone for like half the season? any chance they'll be able to pull off what the suns did when amare stoudemire got injured?

^i doubt it
amare's a great player but the suns actually revolve around steve nash rather than amare
grizzlies' main focus is pau... i really dont see anyone else on the roster that could keep the team afloat until pau gets back

During that dominatin season by Amare, I seriously thought he was the closest player to the prime Shaq or that he can be the next Shaq. But hes slowly becomin a Shawn Kemp type player.

we haven't even seen amare play 100% healthy since before his injury so he still could be his old dominating self

ok so it's pretty obvious that they won't do as good as the suns did but exactly how good do you think the grizzlies will be? i think they'll be staying near .500 or slightly above it. i don't think they'll make the playoffs since the west is stronger than the east so there's more competition for seeding.

no offense but it's kinda stupid to only shoot the ball when you are wide open. you never know when you will be wide open and sometimes.. you wont ever be open in a game. if you are the leader or the scorer of a team, you gotta shoot even if someone is guarding you (that's when skills come in. the more skilled they are, the higher the chance they will make the shot with the defender in their face). joe johnson is the leader of the hawks..so if he isn't going to step up, who will? the hawks gave him max contract and made him their franchise player. he is the hawk's main firepower.

id say slightly below, maybe 2 games under .500 all season
i also doubt theyd make playoffs, unless of course pau makes some kind of miraculous comeback earlier in the season. once again, i doubt THAT. in fact, im sort of expecting pau to be out 3-5 weeks longer than what the grizzlies initially announced... just a feeling
but yeah... eddie jones, damon stoudamire, mike miller, stromile swift and whoever else staying over .500 in the west? eh....

^ swift got traded back to the grizz in the rudy gay trade.

they don't have a proven scorer in that lineup. a guy who can consistently put up 20 pts, and that scares me, especially half a season. they still have good parts, so they can win games, but without pau, its not as many as they would like. for the first 41 games i see them going 16-25.

i see where you're coming from with the rest of your post but i wanted to use what you said right there for another point.

when joe johnson was with the suns, he had a much better percentage and because of that, you guys(not necessarily you, ONe.ShoT) argue that he's a better 3 point shooter than gilbert arenas. when did gilbert arenas ever have a chance to prove how good a 3 point shooter he is when he's been on below average(warriors) and average(wizards) teams? he's always been the leader(not sure about when he was with the warriors though, i don't remember) so he's never had the chance to be surrounded by other good scorers like steve nash, shawn marion, etc.
