Orlando television station WKMG Local 6 is reporting that Rashard Lewis has agreed to sign with the Orlando Magic on July 11.

The deal is reported for 5 years and $75 million.

i wouldn't give him a max contract either. he's not superstar caliber. and you only give superstars max contracts. he'll help the team, and in a weak eastern conference, it might take the conference finals, but i don't expect them to be championship contenders. having Lewis and a raw Howard won't be enough. Orlando was not smart at all giving the max contract.

unless Howard gets more aggressive on offensive, gets the ball more, and utilizes his size along with more refined post moves, the tandom can't be considered a "1-2" punch. don't give the Magic that much credit though. it seemed more of a move of desperation, rather than one that was well thought out. think about it this way..any team with enough money can lure in a quality player like Lewis, you know?

It is some relief for Howard though, he always kept getting double teamed and turning the ball over because the ball went to him most of the time. At least Lewis will draw away some attention on the court.

well, think about it this way. it was better than staying pat with all that cap space, and rashard lewis was a better person to sign than anyone else.
next year, they might not have the cap room because they would probably want to extend guys like trevor ariza, jameer nelson, jj reddick, carlos arroyo and keyon dooling. even if they dont want to (and they wont) keep all of them, its going to cost a pretty penny to keep at least nelson around.
