the clippers passed up on a lot of good players in that draft. they could've picked dirk nowitzki, paul pierce, antawn jamison etc but they picked olowakandi...who was a worse number 1 draft pick, michael olowakandi or kwame brown?

well so was kwame brown

the only one of like the last 6-7 1st picks (minus the recent ones like howard and williams) not to be an all-star i think

mihm was a number 7 pick too i heard
at least hes not exactly shabby

you really can't blame them for that pick. the draft class was exceptionally weak. only 3 bonafide stars came out of the draft in vince carter, dirk, and paul pierce. some were pretty good (jason williams, antwawn jamison, mike bibby), but overall a very weak draft. kandi man had a huge upside, and the biggest thing that nba gms look for, size.

to really show you how weak the draft was, i'll list two names that should never have been picked in the lottery. robert "tractor" traylor and michael doleac.

dirk has size too, not to mention shooting range. though i don't really know how olowakandi and nowitzki stats compared in their rookie seasons.

bogut's been decent, howard's been pretty good, yao's been pretty good, kwame sucked, martin's been ok, and olowakandi sucked. that's as far back as i can remember. hmm...the last 5 or 6 number 1 draft picks have been power forwards or centers with the exception of lebron james.

yes, but this was before the big european push. dirk was also a relative unknown, because he played in the german leagues, which aren't really high competition. c'mon, he was traded for tractor traylor in a draft day deal. that really shows what little confidence people had in him.

i'm wondering about whether or not dirk would make the cavaliers better if he would've stayed on the team. of course he's good but could lebron james and him coexist on the court?

rookie stats
kandi: 8.9ppg, 7.9rpg, 0.6apg, 1.2bpg, 0.6spg, 43.1FG, 48.3FT, 1.9TO, 28.4 min
dirk: 8.2ppg, 3.5rpg, 1.0apg, 0.6bpg, 0.6spg, 40.5FG, 77.3FT, 1.6TO, 20.4min

eh... i guess kandi outperformed dirk in his rookie year...

kandi did get 8 more minutes per game though so that might've been a factor.

oh ok. when he said that he was traded for traylor, i assumed it was with the cavaliers.
