Doesnt really matter. I dont like waiting for it to startup so I put my computer in standby.. My logic is if you aren't using it... just save electricity and turn it off.

standby maybe uses 10 watts while a desktop uses... 100-400 watts or so depending on the load.

Personally, I leave it on all day and night because I download a lot of TV shows and whatnot. ph34r.gif However, unless you have a reason to leave it on, I suggest you keep it off OR as the person above said, put it on standby. However, if you put it on standby, make sure to restart the computer once in a while because many programs have small memory leaks that build up. And if that memory leak builds up too much, your computer will end up becoming very very slow.

I used to leave the pc all day up to a week before. x_x The only downside of it is that it slows down at times..

not really good to have it on all day, in my opinion, my computer will get slow and all ><!! if you leave it on stand-by, I guess that should be fine >0<~

I dont like waiting for it to startup, I also don't like to put it on standby because My computer has a very big light, and it gets annoying when it flashes. So I just hibernate it. smile.gif

I don't really get why people are so impatient these days. booting up a comp shouldn't take very long if your computer is a newer pc. It only takes about 1 minute or less for my comp to boot, and it's not even a very powerful comp and i had it since 2002 lol, but i disable all the programs i don't use on a regular basis like AIM, MSN, etc.

If your really stingy about your electrical bill. You should turn off your powerbar, or computer's powersupply "unplug it from the wall outlet" cuz a lot of computers and electronics draws electricity even when it's off.

I think if your not using your computer for an hour or more its better to turn it off. I been doing it for 5 years and my comp is still running well. maybe im just lucky i don't know. Atleast, i save a few bucks on electricity a year. lol

I say if you know you won't be using the comp for more than 5 hours, you might as well turn it off.

I think its about 2 minutes of booting time.

My desktop is a good 30-40 seconds.

Vista is super annoying, takes forever to boot. plus it freezes all the time!

That is a flawed argument. Vista itself is new too. Doesn't matter if something is new or not. It can sometimes be faulty even when it is new.

I like to leave my computer on all day. Its not bad for your computer at all to leave it on for long periods of time.
