I'm taking Chemistry (first in the sequence) and Calculus (also first in the sequence) in the fall, and was wondering which one would be more difficult to grasp.

I know they're different subjects, but I'm just wondering about overall difficulty.

Thanks!

For me, I felt that Chemistry became harder as I progressed through the series. Calculus became easier as I progressed through.

Calculus is more about concepts, while Chemistry is more leaning towards memorization and theory/concepts.

I think it depends on what things the chemistry course is going to cover. Although I thought Calculus was much easier than Chemistry. Chemistry you have to memorize a bit more.

I was always a sciency type, but I still found chemistry to be fairly challenging. I can't solve integrals worth a nickel, so I found calculus to be much tougher than chemistry. I think its about which subject you have a better foundation on.

Chemistry. Even when they give you formulas, you have to find which number fits where. Also, you can't forget to convert in needed and sometimes theres more than 4 variables in a equation, etc. Calculus is much easier for me.

Oh I hate Chemistry.

Calculus is so much easier.

Really depends on your aptitude and your attitude. Both were fairly easy for me, but I guess to compare, chemistry was just a breeze because I love it so much.

for me, chemistry was harder because it was both math and science together and took more creative thinking. calculus, if you keep up with the work, you should be fine.

I think calculus takes a little bit more effort than chemistry. Then again, I was in the minority of those who thought the chemistry course wasn't difficult. Also depends if you've ever been exposed to either subject.

calculus is easier for me... there are specific formulas to tackle each type of problems. Chemistry is a broad subject... some topics are easy but some are not so... eg. organic chem, redox, kinetics, etc... they are kinda different...

Hmm.

I had difficulty with both (I took Calc I and Chem II during my freshmen spring term) but I think Calc was harder subject wise since I'm terrible at math, but Chem is a big time consumer since you have to take lab and recitation as well. and it was weighted more.

I did Chemistry, Calculus and Writing all at the same time. It's difficult if you have no time managment skills and like to procrastinate/slack off. If you're deidcated, you'll be fine. Keep in mind that they're difficult subjects to grasp if you haven't taken them before. So be prepared to have like no free time. But it pays off when you see your grades smile.gif

(And it was difficult for me but I got an A- in Chenmistry, A- in Calc and an A- in Writing... the minuses bugged me but whatever... It could have been worse. I don't recommend taking Chem, Calc and Bio... that didn't end so well with me. I got my first C sad.gif)

Oh and I liked Chemistry better. Well I don't like it, I'm just kinda naturally good at it I guess.
