My desktop's been acting up again. This time the display. When i turn on my pc, nothing will display on my monitor, just a blank black screen. But my monitor is off. I assume that the video card is not being detected. So i tried pulling it out and putting it back again. Upon restart it would either do the blank black screen again or blank black screen but with a few short beeps. So i'm positive that it must be the video card. I tried to remove and put it back. Eventually after 20 or more attempts the video card was detected and i was able to start my pc peacefully.
Also my screen is too dark. the setting for brightness is alreday at 100%. I need to adjust the gamma to make the monitor brighter. But if i'm editing videos the videos remains dark (while using adobe premiere softwares) and will just be brighter if i'm watching the videos in my media player/s.
Is it time for me to buy a new video card? Or is it my motherboard that is having a problem detecting my cards?

sounds like the connector might be getting screwed up? Maybe your power supply is dying?

Try borrowing a video card from a friend to test to see if it's actually the video card. Then you can test YOUR video card in your friend's computer. Of course, if your video card works in your friend's computer, and your friend's video card does NOT work in your computer, the motherboard/connector/power supply is the problem.

Thanks for your advice!
Unfortunately i dont know anyone whom i can borrow a video card from. I'll just buy a new one tomorrow since i'm really planning on upgrading my video card with a higher memory (mine's an old one with 64mb, im not into games so might just buy a 128mb) hopefully it's not the motherboard. I dont think it's power supply because i just upgraded to a higher power supply since my old one cant support all my hard drives. ㅋㅋㅋ
my pc is over-used! lol

I'm using an Asus motherboard. One technician told me that Asus' warning beeps works the other way around.

I brought my video card to a repairshop to test. It is still working fine. However i am really thinking of upgrading it. So i purchase a new video card. I just installed it and so far i'm loving it. I can adjust now the brightness of videos. Before i'm stuck with really dark videos while editing. This new video card allows me to adjust the gamma and color and brightness not just of my monitor but videos as well. So i'm really happy that i bought one.
I know that my motherboard is really very old now. Probably the reason of my previous problem is not really my card. But the slot for the video card is kinda loose now. Since my video card is old too and because of frequent removal of my video card they kinda get loose. With the new card, the connection is still intact.
I'm going to upgrade my memory too... Then i'm going to reformat.
Hahaha! So happy! Feels like a brand new computer!
But i know i need to upgrade soon, i can feel my mother board will give up in a year. My pc's been with me since 2003. I just upgraded a few parts since then (my first upgrade is adding a dial-up modem when i decided to get internet *gosh i cant imagine that i have dial up before -- i can't imagine that prior to that i dont have any internet at all; then i added 80gig to my 40 gig hd -- how was i able to manage working with just 40 gig before?; then i added 128mb memory to my current 128mb -- shocks! 128mb and doing video editing! can't imagine i managed that; upgrading my dial up modem to lan card when i converted to broadband -- yuhoo!; upgrading powersupply to 500w because i cannot accomodate all my hardwares; recent ugrades were 2.0 usb ports, 80 gig external, video card and tomorrow i'll get 1g memory. then i'll reformat and install Windows XP SP 2 -- i only have Windows Xp Professional before.
Can;t imagine that my pc is really very old. But still working really good and can still compete with new pcs (but sometimes giving me headaches!). I think i can live with my pc (with the new upgrades) in a couple more years. Makes me think twice about replacing it with a laptop.
