I get A LOT of nosebleeds, especially in the summer.
At least once a day.
It's gross.
Nosebleeds in the shower, nosebleeds when I sneeze, nose bleeds when I run into walls.
UGGGGH STUPID BOSEBLEEDS.

So anyways, I was wondering if there are any effective ways of stopping nosebleeds?
I mean, in the short-run, not long term, LOL.
I just go with the classic "shove some tissue up your nostril".
But come'on, there's got to be a better way.
I swear, my nostrils are getting wider because of this. >>'

PLEASE HELP ME. D:

(Yes, I've been to the doctor about this before, NUMEROUS times actually.
Apparently, it's because the blood vessels in my nose are just really fragile. ==;
So there's not much I can do, except drink more water, eat more vegetables... etc.)

Wow you're really lucky.
Yes, it's true, don't tilt your head bad.
I never tilt my head back, unless my nosebleed is REALLY REALLY awful.
I always end up barfing up the blood afterwards. ><'

Wow, you're not suppose to tilt your head back?

Lol I always thought that's what you're supposed to do >.<

Try getting an air humidifier for your room, or multiple ones for your house/apartment and see if that helps. Eat alot of iron products too..

Angie, are you supposed to shove tissue up your nose AND put ice on it? Or do you ONLY put ice on it? Wouldn't it be kind of messy then...?

FusionGT2, thank you for laughing at my misery. So mean. D:

Muchacha, thanks! I'll tell my mom to get some, haha.

Deportedkorean, excessive nose-picking isn't what causes my nosebleeds. But thanks for your concern? ._.,

me toooo! (when i was little, that is) lol

the most effective place to pinch your nose is right where the cartilage & bone meet; that's where the blood usually originates from...it's almost like holding your nostril(s) completely shut. hold it like that for 5-10 minutes (don't tilt your head back, sit/stand normally), and then see how the blood is. by then it should be kind of congealed, or stopped.

something my grandma taught me, and i proceeded to use on every kid at school that had a nosebleed...wet a paper or cloth towel, wring it semi-dry, and place it on your forehead. you can tilt your head a LITTLE BIT back, but not too much. by the time the towel gets kind of dry/warm, the bleeding should have stopped.

you're probably getting nosebleeds b/c it's too dry...try sleeping with a humidifier on smile.gif

After you get a nosebleed, use a q-tip, dab some Vaseline on it, and spread it around inside your nose. I know, it sounds a bit strange, but it helps moisturize your nose and you won't get them as frequently maybe?

Be sure to lie down once you get one, and have plenty of wet tissue on hand! biggrin.gif

Can you resist the temptation?

Ugh, tilting my head back when my nose is bleeding makes me feel like a vampire drinking blood *gag* I pinch the bridge of my nose until it stops. Usually I just hang my head over the sink and just wash the blood off repeatedly while pinching the bridge of my nose until it stops.

stick a tampon into your nose

It's better than tissue, since it's more absorbent.

I had the same problem as you when i was younger, and I went to my doctor and he sent me to this other doctor, and that doctor burnt something in my nose that made it stopped, it was a 5 minute appointment, and I was done. It didn't hurt or anything, and it wasn't expensive at all. It was simple, and I have not had a nose bleed since, he did something up my nose, because all i saw was a bit of steam come out of my nose. >.<

And if you don't want to bother getting it done like that, my boyfriend has been getting them once a month, and he tilts a head back just a bit, not a lot, and then holds the bridge of his nose, for a bit, like 5 minute max, then i would go and get him a warm damped face towel, and he would cover his nose with it, just to make it moist up his nose, it isn't dry.

Also, maybe you shouldn't be running into walls? That would prevent a few of them...lol laugh.gif

Good luck!
Thought I couldn't live without you
It's gonna hurt when it heals too
Even though I really loved you
I'm gonna smile 'cause I deserve to.

And thanks Cookiied, I'll try that sometime.
Thank you to everyone else that offered ideas, practical ideas. XD

When I was younger, I used to get them a lot too. My mom told me to put ice on my head for like a couple of minutes a day. mellow.gif I don't know how it helps or if it does at all, but after I did that for a while, I stopped getting nosebleeds. wink.gif

LOL laugh.gif . That reminded me of "Shes The Man".

But anyway, I remember having the worst nosebleed ever o_o. It just wouldn't stop, and the blood just kept on running. What you should do is, try not to move around a lot. Sit down on a chair and relax. If the blood is going down your throat, try not to swallow too much because you stomach will feel VERY sick after. Although I heard its not good to tilt your head back, a doctor once told me that you should tilt it back a LITTLE bit then pinch your nose. Theres no bone where your nostrils are, but if you move up your nose and the part RIGHT where the bone starts, thats where you're supposed to pinch it. Hold it for 10 minutes (yes, I know it seems long) and try not to let go. If your hand gets tired, very quickly switch it with the other hand. Do not stick paper up your nose, as this could make things worse. Just grab a wad of tissue and gently hold it up to your nose so blood does not leak out. If the blood doesn't clot after 10 minutes, you need to try it again.

Whoa, that was long ahha. But when I had that huge nosebleed, my parents got worried and called for medical advice over the phone. Thats what they told me to do, and it worked.

edit* lots of nosebleeds occur because your nose is too dry. and if thats the case, just take a q-tip (cotton swab), dip it in vaseline and then swirl it inside your nostrils. Be careful not too poke too deep though =P.

edit#2* after reading other replies, it would probably be best to ignore the part I striked out. I find it safer to trust many others rather than just one person o_o.

I remember I always got nosebleeds when I was younger. I guess my parents didn't know, but they thought tilting my head was the best way, so that's how they always handled it.

lol these days, I usually just use a lot of tissue to put in my nose. I think that's the Korean way? Because I remember going to school with tissue stuffed up in my nose and all the teachers were like "omg what is that?"
