At&t or Tmobile?
Unless your living in the city, if your with At&t and using the d520, you won't get much reception.

If you have T-mobile, then the phone probably has weak reception or the towers in your area are weak in reaching your home.
If you have AT&T, then it's most likely the phone since it only supports GSM 1900.
