I always wonder how ppl get rid of their old comps. I have a 3 year old laptop and it's pretty old. It's slow, and it had been fixed so many times: virus, hardware, battery...basicly I am so tired of it, but I can't just throw it away since it still works.

(I'm saving to switch to a Mac though tongue.gif )

My computer is about 3 years old? I think it's nearly 4 years soon.
Yeah I have problems with viruses and spywares too.

But you know in MAC computer, they said they found a virus.
o________o;; And I thought MAC never carry a virus ohmy.gif

I never got rid of it. I love it T_T;;;
I just need to fix the fan cause there's a lot of dust and I haven't cleaned it cause I'm lazy like that.
But I'm scared it will blew up, when I come to my REAL SENSEs I'll fix it T_T

I think mine is about 4-5 years old...it's a bit
laggy but I'll just buy new parts for it =/ I'll
never ever think about replacing it though...
I'll just keep on buying new things for it XD

I.M.O if you want to buy a new cmpu then
sell your lap top to someone who wants it
or just store it away somewhere just in case
you might want it again later. Or you can
fix it up at a store or something

s m i l i n g even when you don't feel like doing so is an a m a z i n g thing [♥]

The thing is who would want to buy a 3 year old laptop which is basicly going to die soon ? I wouldn't. Also, replace with new things might cost a lot, and I mean A lot, not only money but effort. I don't want to spend so much on sth like that, especiallly computer things. Hope u see what I mean.

It's not surprising to find a virus in a Mac, if it was a lot then ya, but one ore two is not surprising. It just means some people out there in the world felt like making a virus for a Mac.

Lets see.

- I have a laptop that's about 6 years old, still have it with me but haven't used it for a long time.
- A desktop that would be 5 years old if I hadn't thrown it away.
- Another desktop that I still have is about 4 years old.
- My laptop right now is 1 year old.
- My new desktop I just built is about a month old or so.

My desktop is now 5.5 years old... upgraded like heck since I got it back in 2002. My laptop is from 2003, but like hell i'm gonna to toss it anytime soon, back then it costed me $2100, because it was reasonably powerful, maxed out the RAM, and it was considered ultra-portable (of its time). I'm keeping my 4 year old laptop because it has a built in serial port which I used now for car data aquisition, beats having more stuff take up one of the two available USB ports for a serial to USB adapter. Plus its small only a 14" screen size laptop and weights 5lbs exactly. I don't care that its 4 years old, it works fine for my needs. Same goes with the desktop, but sometime in the coming year, i will consider replacing it.

If you have a notebook, some places have a laptop trade in program where they take your used laptop and put money in towards a purchase (but from their store). For example, Sony Style does that but you can only buy Sony laptops, so... :I Anyway my dad sold my laptop for a hundred dollars and gave them to me. I know it's not much but better than nothing ._.

Most of mine are about 1 year old. My old laptop was 8 years old or so... you make 3 years sound like a lot. Yes people do buy old computers... sometimes for parts other times because they know they can fix it and go HA I got this for cheap and it works! (weird people like.. me :x)

Right now im bored, I have a extra laptop hard drive or two... time to buy lithium cells to refurbish the battery.. if that laptop isn't that bad of a physical shape and didnt have a damaged board/screen its definitely worth a look.

My pc is about 2.5 years old, and I sooooo want a new one, but I don't see that happening unless it breaks or I buy one of my own. I'll probably end up seeling it one day to build up to a new one. Although I'm still not a fan of the Vista, and I don't really want a Mac.

Mine is almost 2 yrs old it still run really well, not slowing or anything but I think I need to clean my fan and stuff b/cit getting little dusting therer on top of that I'm so lazy and so budy doing other thing when i left the house sometimes I forgot to turn off my comp...but it will hibernate though. I got mine so cheap around 500 dollars on sale after rebate. Not so bad for a 500 dollard lapton. I clean my comp every week so it won't have too much spyware and viruses in it. I threw away my 6 yrs old desktop monitor b/c when moved out of my old house to the new house we kinda left it outside and dirt get inside of it. So I have to throw it away.

Unfortunately, many (not all, but many) of those recycling companies end up just dumping the old computers into the rivers in China. Yeah, they're not SUPPOSED to, but they do it anyways.

Surprisingly i still have my 486 66mhz computer that my parents bought me in 1995... boxed away in storage. Man I gotta pul that thing out and play with it one of these days. I remember using Compuserve for the so called 'internet' and chat rooms back in the day.
