I was recently asked to tutor a boy from Haiti, and I was wondering how much I should charge him. He's 14 and in middle school.. he doesn't know much English from what I've been told, and he speaks French. I speak French fluently, but not perfectly since I only speak French at home and I've lived in the US since I was 4. But yeah, I would be helping him with all of his subjects 1~3 hours a day for about four days a week.
I'm a Junior in HS, so it shouldn't be too hard to help him with things. My counselor suggested ~$20/session but I don't want to charge too much or too little since I'd be helping him with all of his subjects rather than just one. My friend said that her older sister was paid $25/session to tutor in high school French, so I'm not sure where I should draw the line. Help? ^^

I charged 20$ per 1.5 hour sessions (for math).
My friend tutors english for $20 per hour with a group of two kids.
But it's really up to you. Tutors can basically ask for however much they want.

depends on your qualifications.
my sister got a 1600 on the old SAT and is finishing her masters in teaching so she charges 40 bucks an hour for SAT prep.
i would just go with $20/hr if i were you (seeing as you have little to no prior experience), or if you're short on volunteer hours do it for free lol

most starting out tutors with NO experience start off at around 15 dollars an hour
then as you become a better tutor with more tutor-ees, you can start charging more
but you have to know when to stop raising your fee.
i would say as a high school junior 25 dollars an hour is most likely the highest you should charge
(well.. fairly anyway.
if you want to exploit people and they're dumb enough to fall for that then... you still shouldnt do it, but oh well
)

When I was a high school junior, I tutored a 2nd grader with all this homework and charged his mother $6/hour for ~ 2 hours for two days per week. Some people say this was cheap, but I felt bad because I don't really want to charge his mother that much because he wasn't a very bright student.
Then, in the summer, I tutored three kids (1st grade, 3rd grade, and 5th grade) at the same price for each kid once every weekend. They still haven't paid me a dime for that even now, but their parents are friends with my mother, so I didn't really mention it. After I gave them the bill, somehow they stopped coming. >_< I really am I pushover, aren't I?

I never charged .___.;
I felt too guilty to take money haha
But my parents said like $10 an hour is okay for me.

I charge $15/1 hour session for homework and $20/1 hour 30 minute session for English. Both of them are second graders. I would rather not do any tutoring but one of the moms can't stand helping her kid because of miscommunication.

I think $20 is pretty good, seeing that you're teaching him in all subjects.

Someone I know tutored $20 at his house and $25 if he drove to yours.
