Ok. I will be taking Orgo this semester as a requirement but... I heard it's very diffiult and probably the hardest course anyone can take in college?? Is it true...? If so why?? And what can I do specifically to do well in this class. (I need a >3.5 science GPA to get into pharmacy school so ALL help would be appreciated!)

It's soo hard at least for me,, I think the only way to do well is just practice problems like crazy until you get it right,, And professors keep stressing to learn things "mechanistically" so that you can apply the same process to different problems, but memorizing reactions is just so much faster and requires less thought lol
I don't know if it's just for me, but you really can't cram ochem in one night. It's just not possible.

yeah, just do problems & try to get the concept(s) down. its actually not that bad.
if you dont understand something, just go talk to your professor or go get a tutor~

flash cards are usually good for the reactions and stuff, since that's just memorization, and then do practice tests?

Thanks for the help! So basically practice problems and memorization.... so orgo is supposed to be really hard because the course is full memorization or are the chemistry concepts hard to grasp also? whats the difference between general chem and orgo in terms of difficulty?

Ochem is basically hard because (and only because) there's just so much STUFF you need to know. Like you don't really do stuff like how much products are formed from this reaction but know the reaction itself (reactants, products, solvent).
It's also really hard because you have to think 3D from 2D - molecular model kits help a lot in this case.

Oh, and you might want to study notes from a friend/upperclassman about a whole semester before you take the course.

orgo is hard because both the concepts aren't easy at all, and there is a lot of memorize, so you have to be smart AND work hard.
