Teacher of that language

Those are the only ones that come up to me when I think of a language.

Lol well my dad has a friend who was a linguistics major at the U of Minnesota and then became a construction foreman XD..... Ironic thing is he's probably making more money at that job than any job that he could've used that relates to his major....

Anyways...
If you have a certain specialization, you can try looking for a job in that field in that country. Usually engineering firms that are U.S. based but have branches abroad are looking for people who are fluent in both English, and the language of the country that they are in.

I'm looking into the same major, but I'm going to double major in Korean and business.I've done some research on colleges and the University of Washington offers a great program for East Asian Language study. My uncle, who is a language professor at Oxford, has also heard great things about the college. It's a really great program! They recommend that you also study in another language. So I'm planning on a major in business, Korean, and a minor in Japanese. (Japanese is huge in the business market, especially with electronics--the same with Korean.)There's all the things that people have listed above and more, but there's a LOT that you can do--especially if you double major.A lot of companies look into people who are bi, or even multi-lingual. They try to reach a broader market, but need the people who speak the language to do so.You can go into accounting, financing, law, sales, advertising, ALMOST anything.I say go for it, but don't take my word for it. RESEARCH!!!!!!

Work for the government. My friend's cousin graduated with a major in south asian studies (something like that) from NYU and he works for the CIA. Apparently he gets payed to just sit around and read the newspaper.

please do not PM me asking me to close threads, etc! i am no longer a mod! ^^ thanks!

You can do pretty much anything. Some office jobs aren't even really specific, and even if you don't much about a particular area, many companies will still hire you from the language abilities if they need it badly. Government jobs are one, if you're studying a critical language. You can pretty much do anything you want with a language.

But if you want something specific jobs for it... like what others said, translators, interpreters, teachers... those are the main jobs.

erm...i believe you have to know more than just one language to be an interpreter. one of my friends was thinking about that careerpath and the counselors told her she should know like a minimum of three..? if you cant decide, just minor in a language and pick a different major. smile.gif
