but its conditional until the spring 2008 grades are in.
but I'm really scared.
I don't know if I could keep up my accumulative average in my sciences
because of organic II.
anyone in LIU can tell me how they accept/reject you after spring grades are in?
how low does the GPA fall for you to be rejected?

I'm going to college next year (still high school) and I'm going into pre-pharmacy.
most medical degrees involve a lot of math and stuff. So I was wondering, if you're doing pharmacy, is math a big part of it?
I'm usually pretty good at math, but if it's something like calculus then I'm gonna have a hard time..lol

Calculus is a requirement in order for you to get into your professional phase.
I'm not sure how it goes, but my friends who didn't like calculus ended up doing bad in physics as well
... which turns out to be another prerequisite in the pharmacy program.
Calculus
and
Physics (in some cases?-- I think. It's required in my school)
If the college you want to go to accepts AP credits and college credits, I suggest you take Calculus as an AP (if it isn't too late)
I took AP Calculus in high school for granted.
It goes at a much slower speed and requires less for you to know ... comparing to college calculus.
They go through 1-2 chapters each lecture

St.John's is all about cutting out mediocre students. They are committed to graduating their classes, however, they are not willing to let ANYONE graduate with a health professional doctorate. That is only right, I feel.

it's a lot to fit in 2 years, so i have to do summer school . and in order to get accepted into pharm college is to have almost perfect GPA, if it is not above 3.5 on a 4.0 scale they won't even look at you. and also it is VERY important to have volunteer or experience in the pharmacy setting, they look at that. also score high on PCAT...
the guaranteed way to get into pharmacy college is either to take your prepharmacy at the a university or get the BA first. going through community college is cheaper but more difficult to get into if your GPA isn't high, and no volunteer experience.... i am on my 2nd year right now.... =)

for those who applied to pharm school after some time in undergrad...
what was your lowest grade in your prerequisites?
My lowest grade as of right now is a B (which I got in Physics for Pharmacy)
But I have a feeling I'm getting a C or D in Organic II, which will cause my school to strip away my acceptance letter to the professional phase

Hey, congratulations and good luck!
Just a word of advice: If any of you are discouraged by your current grades just keep your head up. It's true that Pharmacy schools does looks at your GPA but it's not everything. They take into consideration your Extra cirr., work experiences, letter of recommendations, PCAT and what you wrote on your personal statement. I know people who has a 2.8 GPA and still got into pharmacy school because they showed strength in other areas. As long as you know that pharmacy is the path you want to take then you'll succeed.
With that said, anybody thinking about getting their bachelor first or taking the traditional route?

GPA isnt all they look at but if its a school with a high number of applicants, then they will look at GPA and PCAT score first. they weed out people who dont meet a certain level. from there they will look at other things such as experience, LOR, extracurriculars.
some schools are considering only looking at people with degrees over people who havent completed school yet are more qualified. they did that one year for our school, and basically they accepted alot of dumb people with BS after their names. as a recent grad, i dont see the difference between people with bachelors and those without. just their age...

I'm going to UC Berkeley next year as a freshman and I'm so confused about everything. I know I want to be a pharmacist, but Berkeley doesn't have a pharmacy school. So is it okay if I just major in Biochem then transfer to UCSF after getting my BA? and what classes should i take freshmen year?
Thanks!

one thing i regret is that i didnt take rotations seriously... i wish i could have tried to be more a pharmacist. i dont feel ready at all being thrown in a pharmacy by myself. but as a grad intern right now, money is great, i cant complain.
