well...pharmacy and medicine are two different fields... it depends on what YOU prefer. The reason I switched to pharmacy from medicine was because I wanted to learn about drugs and its interactions etc, whereas medicine is more about physiology and prognosis. Also, there's alot of fields you can get into after graduating from pharmacy (it's not all about working at cvs and walgreens).
I think you should do some research...

- I'm seeing in the first page that there is a 2 + 4 years course, how does that work out? If I am enrolled in UCD, am I expected to obtain my BA or can I transfer straight to Pharmacy school after 2 years of the right courses?
- Do people with a BA have a higher chance of being accepted into a Pharmacy school?
- What are the required courses to get into pharmacy school? I've seen Chemistry and Biology, is there any other important ones?
- I'm going to Davis as a BioChem major. Is that the right route to go? Or should I change major to something more specific like Chemistry?

what is the average gpa to getting into pharm. schools after undergrad.?
I'm a freshman and my first two quarters were horrible, to say the least. And I'm even retaking a chemistry class that I received a D in. I'm getting my act together this quarter...but is pharm school out of the question for me now??
thanks in advance for any input.

you can transfer after 2 years*, granted you complete all the necessary prerequisite courses and shtuff..
a bachelor's degree earns you extra points when admissions review your application.*
* to schools that don't require bachelors only, of course
required courses include things like:
- calculus I
- physics I
- anatomy or physiology or both
- o-chem I & II
some might require statistics, too. then there's like humanities and social sciences and stuff. many seem to want economics (macro or micro) and then speech (public speaking).. and blahh. lol. just go look at the school's site you want to apply to. all the necessary prerequisite courses should be listed there

I don't even feel like studying for my exam anymore.
I have a question, should I retake Gen Chem if I had a B in it? I've been getting all A's in every other classes though. I freaked out so much because of that B but I kindda let it go and stopped thinking about it until I read about how competitive Pharm school is nowaday.

I agree.
UNLESS, the pool of people applying with you happen to all have A's or something -- which is unlikely.

You can take bio or chem classes during the summer. Just keep in mind that the summer sessions go by pretty quickly and but it's doable. I think you got it mix up with do not take math or science classes at a community college? I heard people said that a lot, but I've seen people that got into pharm schools going the community college route.
2) Do any of you have friends that kind of belittle pharmacy and its difficulty?
I understand that I'm not going to study brain surgery, but pharmacy is hard in its own ways.
I had a friend TOTALLY belittle my studies b/c my other friend goes to Cornell. I have NOTHING against environmental majors, but my friend literally said that since the other friend goes to Cornell, she understands how hard it is for her to work a part time job b/c... well "she's a cornell student". Meanwhile, I work 2-3 jobs while being a full time student. But that doesn't mean much I guess, huh?
I was EXTREMELY pissed off. Not to say much but... pharmacists literally has patients' lives in this hands. What's not to get?
I have friends that think all I do in the pharmacy is type and fill patients prescriptions. I'm a tech right now, but the stress is still there. I feel sorry for the pharmacists because sometimes they don't even have time to eat. I still like the challenge though. Working in the pharmacy is so much more than filling prescriptions.
You know what I want to disappear forever? DRIVE-THRU!
Goodluck on your NAPLEX!
Oh by the way, what school do you go to? I read your other post and you said there were 220 students accepted? That's a large amount of students!
i'm a biological science major
hoping to become a pharmacist.
should i switch my major to Pharmaceutical Sciences?
No, you can major in anything and can still apply to pharmacy school. Just make sure you have all or most of your prereq done before applying.
I have a little question.
So I started college last year.
I'm in Pre-Pharmacy Program at this one Community College.
Due to my poor health, I had to drop my whole schedule classes last semester, so there are those Dr's (drop grades) on my transcript, which the Pharmacy of School where I want to transfer to later on, would really hate to see (the counselor just told me so)
I'm just wondering if I could re-register to this community college where I'm currently enrolled, and start everything over?
And if I could re-register to this school, would it affect my financial aid?
I'm so clueless. Please help me!!
You have to retake the classes that you dropped, but your drop grades will still be on your transcript. There is no way you can get rid of it. Make sure you do well on the classes that you drop though. I don't think re-register to the school would some how affect your financial aid. You might want to check w/ the financial aid office.

It would be best if you could look at the school you're planning to apply to and see what classes you have to take. The majority if not all pharmacy programs require English 1&2, History 1&2, Goverment 1&2, Writing Intensive, Public Speaking and Humanities. There are plenty of non-science classes you can take to get a head start. Make sure the classes you take at a community college match up with the ones at the university.

Like I mention to ken-21, look at the prerequisites that are required then decide what Bio to take. This is the first time I've seen the basic Bio class divided up into 3 sections. Usually they are just Bio 1 and 2. From my experience, you don't have to take the Bio classes in order since they're not equivalent to each other. I'm not sure about your school though.

Is the Pharm Tech Exam based mostly on calculations? Or do I have to memorize a whole lot of drug interactions, generic/brand names...etc?
Also,
When do most people take the PCAT? Is it like the SAT, where the exam is only given out on fixed dates? If so, when is it? I'm not looking for specific dates...just the names of the months. thanks for your attention! :]

Yes, I'd say 50% of the test is all math.
I'd say memorize the main brand/generic and their class. Lipitor is an antihyperlipidemia drug... etc.
The PCAT, is along the lines of DAT's, MCAT's, and so forth but more based on your respective field. I dunno when they are given, but I'm sure a few times a year.
