what the heck is a FM Transmitter. I understand that it transmits to a stereo. Someone I know said her rooommate bought a transmitter and put it on her desk. Does it transmit every sound?
I'm not exactly sure how it works. I get that it can... transmit sounds. But can it be used to transmit sounds, like.... conversations of someone in the room?

FM transmitters transmit music from a music player into a radio station which can be heard on the stereo but it's impossible to transmit actual sounds from the surrounding environment (not the music player) without very technical equipment (how can you record sound without a microphone?).

Its basically how a radio station transmitter works, just miniaturized and not as powerful. It transmits audio from a audio source, such as a iPod or MP3 player to nearby FM radios. So that the music can be played through the radio speakers. Like a car radio, you have a iPod that you can't plug into it, so you use a FM transmitter to send the audio from the iPod to the car radio and through the car speakers.
There are FM transmitters that you can buy or make that have a microphone on them, allowing you to spy on people. It might be illegal, but its very much possible.

FM transmitter transmits music from music player to a blank radio station, so for example, if you tune in to that radio station in your car, you can use your car stereos to listen to your music from your music player instead of directly from the player. hope this helps
