O-o right. Well, I mean...the soundcard is installed. But under Sounds and audio on Windows it says 'No Audio Device'. I think it has to do with the audio drivers on Windows messing up.

When ever I check out the problem on the devices with exclamation marks, that's what I get. I have 'Show Hidden Devices' on and I've uninstalled and reinstalled everything. Including the soundcard driver, which is Realtek HD Audio. Straight from the disk. I also tried updating that.

Ok, your problem seems to lie from doubling up of your drivers.

Goto control panel >> add remove hardware >> remove all realtek audio drivers and related programs, do not reboot though when prompted. Goto device manager like you have shown, right click each property (left over drivers that were not properly removed) under Sound, video and games controller, and click uninstall. All the properties should be gone now, reboot, now insert your driver's CD (or use the latest downloaded ones), to install.

Your problem should be fixed now, otherwise message back, or if it gets too hard, add me to MSN, but try the above, it should work. Your device manager is showing to me currently: driver conflict.

Can anybody give me tips on how to improve on pitch. because my biggest problem is pitch. like i can listen to a song but not beable to know what note it is so i'd either go too high or too low or one note higher or one note lower. so does anybody know a way of how i can train my ears to beable to ear the notes and beable to sing it out too.

Search up "ASIO latency" and "AUDICITY" in google.

Nope. She mixed it up. What she should of said was, you should have a half yawning feeling when singing, which helps raise the soft palate, allow for better amplication of the voice (since there is more acoustic space), and eliminating nasal issues all in one shot.

i don't think that has happen to me but there was this one time where while i was doing scales and exercises and my ear felt like i was plugging it. i was hearing my self as if i was putting a finger in my ear its kinda funny now that i think of it haha but it hasn't happened lately sad.gif

the first time i started wanting to sing i also had the same problems as you, where it was really hard for me to get a melody down (with the right notes of course) or even sounding like i was singing a song, but i find that doing scales helps and trills and listening to a song. what i did when i listened to songs was try to differentiate the different notes and try to hum it or lip trill it.. and see if it even sounds close to what i hear then i'll record and listen. thats why sometimes i try to find music sheets to kinda see the notes to get an idea of the song, but if you can i would really recommend a vocal teacher, they'll be able to help you much better than you can help your self just because i'm assuming you have no musical background and you are new to singing; also assuming you aren't tone deaf. other than that just practice scales and such and you'll improve. all the stuff i'm telling you is from personal experience. so it might or might not work for you, but it worked for me smile.gif i cant say it helped me to where i have great pitch but i get the idea of it, and to be honest i still have problems =( so i'm also looking for advices from others about pitch. well i hope something i posted helped in some way haha blush.gif

you can become a singer too! i think there some singers on soompi who are self taught and others have had some training. thats what makes it interesting, well atleast to me. also because i've always been a fan of those singers that aren't famous YET but have some very nice vocals. i personally have looked for a vocal teacher but i have no luck. i tried asking the music director of a choir and she said she didn't have any time to give me private lessons. then i asked a professor at a university to see if he could give me lessons and at first he said yes but then he finalized his schedule and couldn't find time to fit me in. and then i emailed a few teachers at a junior college 45 minutes away because thats the closest one by my town and they also never respond, so i'm out of luck. haha tbh i just wanted to express how hard i tried tears.gif

if you really want to become a singer i think you should try to find a vocal teacher nearby. if not, just look up information on how to sing, but just remember to know at least the basics of singing so you can make sure you aren't doing anything to hurt your vocal cords or start up a bad habit for singing.

one site i can recommend for you is: http://www.vocalist.org.uk/singing_articles.html

only because they have so much information you can read up on to kinda get the idea. some parts dont work anymore and i'm not sure why but there are some articles that still works so just click around tongue.gif

ok..I'm no singer..but I LOVE to sing! I just LOVE it!! i would always sing along to whatever song I burn in my car while driving..

everytime I sing, people would always say, "why don't you become a singer?"

"you should go to american idol."

"you can really sing."

and i told them straight out that, "I can't sing." My sister also agrees and says that I can't sing..

then those people that gave me those compliments says that I'm good at imitating voices..and that's what I do..when I'm singing, I'm just mostly imitating their voices/notes..so I can pretty much imitate the high and low notes..but I CAN'T sing..

sounds confusing?

I can't sing without music, and I can't sing with just instumental, I need the vocal/voice in the background so I can imitate it..

so basically I'm just imitating..I can't carry a note to save my life! i REALLY CAN'T sing..I just imitate..

i want to learn how to REALLY sing..how do I start? any pointers? any stories to improve your singing? please help!

I practice singing alone each day, even though my voice is average. However, when I try to sing in front of people (i.e. not friends, family) my voice wobbles horribly and notes come out all wrong. If I ever wanted to truly sing like a pro(which is what I want to do!) can someone give me tips? Thanks!

This is where you can hear me (teehee)

Hmm, you're singing in the car! I basically practice my singing with my mac, and any instrumentals I can find. I have a certain program on my mac called Garage Band; very extremely useful. When I want to sing a certain song, I find that karaoke version, then BEFORE SINGING IT I look up the lyrics and listen to the song until I have the lyrics down( memorized, or at least know what happens next in the song). I'm an American, and my school never taught Japanese, so pronouciation is HUGE for those non-japanese people trying to sing Japanese! Don't sing like these people:http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=274904&songID=4357631 Their pronunciation is HORRIBLE!! lol I sound evil, but they're blocking out the backround music. I'm still in middle school, so we have chorale and stuff.

^ What do you mean by 'blocking out background music'? Their singing has nothing to do with that, it's a mixing thing. And anyway, not that my pronounciation is any good (I'm surprised native speakers don't try to boycott me singing in anything other than English sleep.gif), you need to work on yours as well. I also don't think you really answered her question xD Oh and by the way, please jsut edit your post instead of replying again if you want to add something.

With the performing in front of people. I'm the same. You really just need to build up confidence. Do a LOT of karaoke in big groups. xD You'll get used to singing with lots of people without all the pressure. (Pick songs that other people may not know, so then you can sing solo and no one will try to sing along hahahaahaha) Try not to look at the audience directly if you're performing. I mean, don't look at faces. I don't know about you but I freak myself out if I see a friend in the audience, watching me -______-;; Try to imagine the audience as like...a blob. =x

*untinnu*: I think your main thing is to develop a 'style'. Some styles may be similar but at least it's your own you know? I'm talknig about little habits people have when they sing. Some could be holding their notes a bit longer, pronounciation, singing softly, stuff like that. In my opinion, you could have a fantastic range and be great in all technical aspects of singing, but something will always be missing without a spark in it.

Try practising songs that don't have a specific artist, like ones that have been covered a lot. A nursery rhyme maybe? Just sing. No music, no nothing. Hum a song. Or try learning a new song without hearing it too many times. So, if you have the lyrics and forget how it goes, you can just make it up the way you think it sounded and the way you think sounds good.

Listen to all kinds of music because the songs you may be comfortable with singing are not always the songs you like. Listen to some jazz, r&b, rock...everything. I always love people who are open to genres ahahaha

Sorry I really suck at giving advice and stuff xD With me, I grew up singing a lot of karaoke, which means a lot of songs from the 50's and stuff. My family loves jazz while I like singing and listening to punk/pop rock. Give yourself a lot of influences, mix everything you like together happy.gif

How do you know whether you are singing with your chest voice?
Cause sometimes when I sing, I have different voices. Like when I sing a song for the first time, it sounds a little kiddish, so is that head voice? And when I sing the song for the second time, I try to improve it so it becomes a little deeper and not that kiddish anymore. Is that the chest voice? If it is, how do you make use of it naturally because I have to keep reminding myself everytime before I start singing.

And is it true that when you cup your ears from the back to push it forward and sing at the same time, you are able to hear your voice.
It's different from the recorded voice.

Read the following sentence out loud please:

How do you know whether you are singing with your chest voice?

That's probably your chest voice you've just used. Meaning, the voice you use comfortably everytime you speak and have a conversation with is your chest voice. Just to make sure, put your hand to your chest, and read that line again. You should feel a noticable resonance (vibrating) on your hand from your chest.

How do you apply this to singing? Well, just sing the notes with the voice you use to speak! Chest voice is only good for low category notes up to about E-F# below high C, so you shouldn't expect the rich tone from your chest voice to follow up to your head voice.

For girls, they'll often have a hard time finding their chest voices because some tend to have head voice speech and not chest voice speech. An exercise to help you find your chest voice would be to practice singing the scales from a comfortable high note, down to the low notes on the scale, using a yawn, or a "muh" sound to drop your larynx and ultimately coax the sound to drop to your chest. Practice hard, and good luck.
