Are you recording with the properties 44,100 hz and 16 bit depth? (I don't know what to call it so I'll say it's 'properties.') I don't know what programs you use but on Sony Acid there's this thing called 'Audio Properties.' If you click on it's Audio tab, you'll see the picture posted beneath. Change the numbers so that they match 44,100 and 16 in their respective boxes. If you use ProTools, I think it's the first thing that pops up when you open a new project. I don't know if I make any sense O_O sorry guys ):

i use audacity now and i've set it to those numbers because someone did suggest that, that was the problem. gave it go, but it didn't fix anything...

i've tried it on cool edit as well and same thing happens. maybe it really is my sound card?

If you don't mind I could try -- just have to record yourself singing haha XD

Most of the questions here can't really be answered or given an opinion unless the rest of us hear you so it's easier if people asking link us to some clips or something.

RECORDING Question: I have a karaoke machine at my house. It's a commercial machine (TaeJin Media) that you would find at any noraebang. I want to use one of the mics to record my voice but I'm wondering how I can hook up the mic to a comp. Can I buy something at RadioShack or must I do something more complicated?

Please PM me if you can!

i actually don't know what my real 'singing' voice is...

i read the faq and... usually when i go to nrb and sing with friends, i sing with my chest voice... i can't reach the high notes anddd i can't really sing high songs..

but before when i was in choir, i was soprano and i would sing with my head voice. it was very very airy and light.

so i'm so confused. because i don't know which one is my real voice. i used to sing with my head voice, but ever since four years ago when i ended choir, i stopped using my head voice and started singing with my chest voice. but i hate it! because i want to sing high songs too butbut when i try to sing with my high voice, it gets SUPER airy and...

yeah. i just really dont understand. i have no idea what my real singing voice is =/

Can anyone recommend a good mic and music program? ^__^; I'm not sure what is what, and all the things that they claim confuse me..

Also, does anyone have tips on breathing (especially between phrases)?

These are just basic things so yeah... you probably already do them but yeah x:v

Try warming up with lots of breathing exercises. Start out four short inhales, four short exhales. Do it a few times then try a few rounds of taking a deep breath and exhaling for a long time if that makes any sense? ^^;; just a few random things that we used to do in chorus ._.V

Also, figure out the best places in the lyrics to take a breath before you sing (usually it'll be at the end of the phrase~~~). If you have a music sheet/lyrics, mark down where you need to breathe and study it that way ? Sometimes you just have to train yourself to hold your air in longer. Practice is kind of the bottom line.

Randoms: try breathing through your nose compared to gasping for air through your mouth (this is my guilty point T__Tv), use your diaphragm for support, and practice singing the song again and again and soon the breaths will come naturally (: <33 Also, I've found that it helps if you exercise/do a sport/work out/etc. ^^;;v

D: sorry this was probably a useless post ._____.

From what I know, I believe that first soprano and first alto, have a more dominant part. Kind of like first chair in a band. Doesn't necessarily mean that the seconds are bad, they just sing more of the harmony and background parts. And I'm pretty sure you know what soprano and alto already is, but just to cover all grounds of the question, sopranos cover more of the higher notes compared to the altos who sing lower ones.

Now I have a question of my own. I was wondering if being if after doing a lot of exercises [like bootcamp] and/or being sore affects the vocal chords or the quality of one's singing. I've been going through "hell week" and it seems my throat feels strained unlike before, it never used to be this way and I'm finding that I can hold a note less that what I use to do if I try to sing.

And I'm aware that girl's voices drop only a tiny bit compared to guys' during puberty, but I was also wondering if this has ever affected anyone's singing at all.
