Hi, guys. My issue isn't really like a problem, but I just want to get better, y'know?

Well, my question is... is it possible to change your tone?

I have a voice like a baby. I mean... REALLY. Like y'know Wonder Girls' Sohee? Like that, only I sound younger. I can sing decently, but I wish my voice isn't like that, and I'd like to know how I could control it, so I don't sound 8 years younger than me whenever I sing (I'm 16, by the way.).

Is there a sort of technique to do this?

if you can sing with standard diaphragm control you can change your tone or timbre.
By using stomach register, your voice be fatter, bigger.
By projecting it out like a screen on your face it ll be clearer, sharper and also thinner.
Other muscles on your face help that too,mouth,pronunciation...you have to try experimenting.
Or post your vocal clip so i can hear what can be improved:)

What are some things to buy if your looking to build a ok/decent home studio? (For singing and rapping). I know a Mic is one. But what else do you need??? And is it expensive?? I'm not trying to make a "professional" studio, that'd be way too expensive ... just an average one. Can someone help a dude out?

For vibrato

QUOTE (lovenara @ Sep 14 2008, 07:49 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
you may want to try exercise of those classical trained one, they start with one time for one bar, sing a note and vibrate it one time, then 2 times,3,4,...but you must count your beat correctly and vibrate your diaphragm, not your throat or anything. After sometime it will come to you naturally like the above rep said.

For recording advice

-consider your room for recording
If it 's very quiet you're lucky,go for condenser mic like samson, theyre cheap now.You can have a near pro recording with this kinda mic in a quiet room.

If it's not very quiet,go with dynamic mic like shure sm58.

Condenser will pick up,amplify voice enormously, suitable for pop ballad singing.
Dynamic mic suitable for rock singing in a decent room.

You also need mic stand, pop filter ( i place my mic on computer carton on a self made pop filter made by cloth hanger!)
pre-amp or mixer ,sequencers,.....but you can buy them one at a time.

I heard that the samson CO3U was a good mic, is it? @__@

Yep, it's all about larynx control. Higher larynx = nasal/high pitched, lower larynx = rich/deep.

Hey guys, I've heard some clips at the Performers' section and I've always wondered what kind of recording software is used to record the songs? Like the instrumental itself is clear and seemingly played from the speaker itself (i.e., the instrumental is not recorded) and the singing is recorded? You guys know what I mean? Lol sweatingbullets.gif It sounds like it's recorded professionaly, but it's really done at home. It's not like you play the music and sing and record both together; it's like, yes, you sing with the music but the music is not re-recorded.

Just using this as an example, the performers section is flooded with 'Nobody' these days,

I'd really appreciate if someone could help. Thanks!!

That was completely uncalled for. Soundclick is still an area is where one is able to post covers. You cannot dictate on what another person should post, especially if some soompiers are more talented than others. Besides overall, soompi forums performers section is still mainly full of covers on Soundclick. You cannot just tell someone to create their own music because first of all it is difficult and people may not have the equipment that is required to do so. So please learn to take your ignorant comments elsewhere.

R u attacking me?
I have my right to suggest that, posting cover is against their policy and also everywhere on net,you know that?
Dont make assumption on your thinking,if it allows that why those posting covers got banned ,kicked out.
If someone wanna post covers they better post on their webs like geocities or even here in soompi.
Just becos you cant do your own music, doesnt mean everyone cant do it.
Who knows how many bands will start writing their own music by my post?

I been member to hundreds of forums and never get response like this.
You know netiquet? if you re not the owner or mod when you find some posts you dont like just report that to mods
and let the mods warn me or something " if i was wrong" but in this case i'm completely right!
Still wanna fight? you must be very young to not know this.
And i dont care too if i get kicked out of this forum from saying that, because i suggested the right thing to do.

^LOL i started a fight :/

i dont think he was attacking u, just a different angle of the issue..

obviously its against the policy of the site, and i understand that..
and your suggestion would of course be the "obvious" solution..
but like he said, i dont have the money to buy the dash, keyboards, midi playback stuff, (and several other things)...
and a program to work with all of the above...
i would LOOVE to make my own music...

care to donate to the "gene yoon" foundation?? biggrin.gif

I heard that the samson CO3U was a good mic, is it? @__@

EEEPP @___@

i think alot of people up there answered the condenser mic and dynamic mic question biggrin.gif so... i guess i won't go into it rolleyes.gif
quickly put, dynamic = can't pick up as much frequencies, so the sound isn't as crisp but it handles loud sounds well and it doesn't have as much background noise as a condenser, while a condenser picks up more frequencies cause its more sensitive, and can pick up sounds more accurate to the singer's but if not in the correct environment it can pickup some noise while you sing.

:] mmm the samson CO1U-CO3U

The reason people on soompi use the samson CO1U-CO3U is because it's a usb interface microphone, so you can plug it into the computer without using a preamp/audio interface.

- there's no realtime monitoring [normally mics that run through a preamp/audio interface have realtime monitoring] what that means is when you sing in your mic, you can actually hear your voice in your headphones, which you don't really need, but its nice to have.

- USB mics have a bit of a buzz noise in the backround. not sure if its just me, but usually people experience it

- you're very limited to mic choices, there's only a handful of mics that are available if you choose to buy a usb mic, while if you just buy the whole recording package, then you can pick any microphone you want out of a countless number.

- You can't change things up and upgrade from a USB mic. If you want really professional stuff, you want to keep upgrading bits and pieces of your equipment, like a new preamp/audio interface/microphone/other hardware you want. but in a USB mic... you can only buy like a max of a 150+ mic.. if im correct lol.

+CHEAPER WAY!!!!

it all depends on what you want and what you are willing to spend. usb mics are 80-150 dollars. or a package of everything. lets say 100 for an audio interface [its like a sound card basically, unless you have a really good sound card, it most likely wont do for recording] and 100 for a preamp [especially if you want a condenser mic, i forgot to put this in... you're gonna need phantom power on your preamp, unless you have your usb condenser mic of course] and a mic, 100 dollars [ definitely cheaper ones out there again, but im just saying stuff i would choose biggrin.gif ]

the USB microphones out there aren't just limited to the samson, but its the most well known of the usb mics i guess.
if you want to hear some sound from all of the mics, ill give you some examples of the people with usb condensers on soompi.
it all depends on the mixing too. good mixing > bad mixing haha

Samson CO1U, Q1U [a usb dynamic, never heard this one before] , CO3U [also never heard, people usually people just get the CO1U]
Soompiers that use it [CO1U] : Me, SweetsLove, noraesonagi, jzsun, x3wendy, link_the_2nd [recently]. all i can think of for now, i know more people use it

Blue Snowball
Soompiers that use it: Tae Gyung Jin Hwa [until it broke on him. he usually records in a fan filled house too. so its probably not the best to use him as an example lmfao], Ariah`

MXL USB Series [i really wanted to try this one out. its had some pretty good reviews]
Soompiers that use it: Fantastikk

yup those are all that i can think of on the spot biggrin.gif enjoy

L

I don't want to start a fight myself... sigh~ and i'll try not to, as best as i can.

What probably happened was gene covered a song that a label didn't want him to cover without the correct copyrights...
not all labels are that strict on making covers. take for example korean covers. there are a TON of karaoke/cover type of websites, for people who specifically want to showcase their covers.

I never knew soundclick was so strict on their copyrighting issues, but everyone on soompi uses soundclick for its convenience, and maybe we shouldn't. i'm just confused as to why they even make a cover song section of the website... when they won't allow it. but this isn't the matter at hand is it biggrin.gif haha.

lovenara, you have to understand that Kyo Hanjin's aggressive stance was not because he didn't like you, but because of the negative tone in your first reply haha. i know english isn't your first language, and i hold nothing against you for that, and im sure you didn't mean it in the wrong way, but the way you wrote that sentence, i don't know if you knew about it. but it gives off a negative tone, in my perspective. "easy ,write your own song Stop using other people's song"... you could have phrased that alot nicer. it comes out, not as a suggestion, but a command. there are certain parts of that sentence that could have changed the whole thing into something alot nicer... im not bashing on your opinion, but i think that everything should be stated in an opinionated form, and nothing that comes out commanding.

now i really don't have anything to say to Kyo Hanjin, not because i know him, but because his response is just a snowball effect of getting angry at your response. i guess i can only say, control your anger. haha

your response. snowball effect, haha.

i know i promised to not fight, but i have to put in my opinion somewhere...

but im sorry haha. what you wrote kinda makes me a bit angry wink.gif haha... i'll try to make it as nice as possible, cause i don't think i should pick out something you said in a fight...

the way you tell people to start writing their own music, it's coming off like you think it's a superior form of expression, and i know a lot of people that give no credit to people who only cover songs. But if you think of it in a different perspective, we are all artists here trying to make different versions of music that's enjoyable for people. Covering a song isn't just trying to copy them, but giving a different version of the original music. Take for example opera singers, no one tells an opera singer that they should start writing their own music after they perform Ave Maria or another classic. Opera singers are based on their rendition of the song, and the amount of technicalities they have in their singing. If you think of it like that, we are all, opera singers of k-pop. We do our thing on another persons song, there is nothing wrong with that. It's not like korean artists these days write their own songs [some do, but not most].

and that is not what netiquette is... netiquette is not bashing people online, following the forum rules, and showing etiquette on the internet like it would be shown in real life. You never got responses like that before, but... sometimes the comments you write for people, i want to write a response like that and i guess Kyo Hanjin was the only one who could respond like that. just try phrasing your comments nicer and everything will be dandy.
Please feel free to pm or comment about collabing ;) i dont bite.
I also noobishly mix. So if you need someone to mix, i'll be happy to help out.

Sorry bout that pic guys... someone went onto my account... and put that there...

wooa i totally agree with It4cH1... LOL

anyway, yes.. lets not fight... i solved it by the nxt easiest thing anyway tongue.gif (but i lost all my hard work sad.gif.. and most likely wont be posting on soundclick anymore... but w/e its life right?? haha we're governed by these laws/rules to make society happier.. and i guess in some sense, it makes sense that soundclick itself doesnt want to be sued for letting this happen... so in the end, we all learned a valuble lesson... tongue.gif the people who stand against copyrights learn something.. and the people who stand against the people who stand against copyrights learned something..

oh and i think sc technically ALLOWS cover songs.. i just think that we're suppose to go by the "right way" by getting permission from the labels... and have proof that we do... its just a hassle cuz most of us aren't doing it for the money anyway... u know?? but laws are laws i guess :/

in a perfect world (well, my definition) music would be free for the public... but its not like that...
if i was a professional singer, i dont think i'd mind not making MILLIONS of dollars.. just enough to get by smile.gif

LOL
