I seem to be haunting this thread a lot, but it's the holidays and I actually have the time to ask this sort of thing...
Recording question this time
I have a cheap desktop mic, and when I'm singing, esp in head voice (dum di dum sweatingbullets.gif ) it sounds like there's a sort of reverb coming though, and this is before I touch it. Is this because of the mic, or would it just be my voice?

The microphone.

I'd say it's more the distance from you to your microphone. Cheaper desktop microphones are more "sensitive" to those frequencies in a normal bedroom so the reverby effect is increased. You could move closer.

Or you could just get a better microphone.

what mic are you after? price range..shure sm58 is a good all rounder if u got the money..$_$

anyway..i'm new at this recording thing..but yea..

well when i record..the top half of the wave thing..( treble/left ..) is louder than the bottom (base/right)

and also..when i dont say anything and just that bit of background noise...it goes below the line (in the middle) but yea, it doesnt goes in the middle..

so is there something wrong with the microphone or settings?

i use CEP

thanx!!

^ me too! and i want a vibratto and people just say PRATICE! any more helpful advice? how does your throat and stuff feeeeeel and act when u vibratto?

They're right. You should practice. It'll find you when you're singing correctly- it has something to do with the amount pressure in your vocal folds from your diaphragm or something incredibly odd like that. And. your throat..shakes? o_O; Or I guess it vibrates...since your vocal folds oscilate when you sing with a vibrato.
Don't force your vibrato, 'cause then it's not really a true vibrato.

when i sing, saliva will start accumulating in my mouth cuz i dun have time to swallow, then sometimes when i stare in the mirror while i'm singing i can see my saliva at the edges of my mouth when i open and close, does anione else have this problem too? it's not very noticeable tho' , but i was thinking what if there's a closeup shot if i'm in some competition, then i'd be so embarrassed. pls help!

I don't know exactly what you meant but when listening to music, I noticed that if they didn't have vibrato, they'd slowly fade the note away, if they had vibrato, they'd just stop it normally or add a creak to it at the end or fade away too.

Hmm that's an interesting thing to bring up. I never really thought about it at all. First time I have. I don't ever remember recalling swallowing when singing. Then again, saliva doesn't come to my mind when I sing. I noticed though, that when I put my mind on this topic, it seems more saliva comes out now. I don't know about singing, but I know in speech, I noticed my mouth becoming dry, especially my throat area. Maybe you're thinking too much about saliva when you're singing? I don't know. I just know, when I think about my hands sweating, they start to sweat haha.

How old are you? I know my voice changed as I got older. I used to be able to hit really high notes, now i struggle for high F (i'm a mezzo so that's ok..ish) sweatingbullets.gif
Just keep on practicing and get used to it. You can relearn how to control it again.
Same goes with recording. You aren't used to the way your voice sounds recorded, because it's different to singing and hearing yourself. Just keep at it, and get used to the way it sounds first.

Tomiko3, my singing voice changed from about 14 to 15
Cos I remember I quit one of my choirs at that point
So I guess it's possible?
I think there is some degree of change in girls voices, not as much as guys though.

My voice changed at around 12-now (14). So yeah, I agree. There is some degree of change. I don't have much of a range anymore =___=

^ Do you mean notes? xD

Weeell...you can't really keep it the same.

There are three different levels for notes in your range.

Chest voice - Strong, lower notes
Middle voice - A little lighter, higher notes
Head voice - Very light. almost breathy sometimes, high notes.

And then there falsetto and whatever for notes that are higher than that.

You can't force chest voice to go for higher notes because it's bad for you.

So I guess, you could practice so your higher notes are stronger?

Do scales and stuff xD
