I need some advise >.<
Maybe I can introduce myself a bit so that you can understand the situation.
I'm 19, studying in 2nd year at La Sorbonne (Paris), my majors are English Economics&Management, and I'm planning to study at Ewha University for a semester. Actually my university has agreements with Ewha, so I applied for the university exchange, I don't know if they will take me or not.
Anyway, I would like to know if any of you has been to Ewha, or know people who have been there.
And maybe some general advise too.
You kind of freaked me out when you said Korean and Korean-Americans stay by themselves and don't talk to others. What do Koreans think about French people? >.<
Thank you all by advance ^^

If you're a Korean citizen and you're trying to apply there as a international, freshman student, is it possible? The only place I know I can apply is SNU... but are there any other places for Korean citizens trying to apply as international students?

basically i want a university that has a good program in entertainment/production/management or in tourism/hospitality.
im not really sure if these are popular in korea, im also scared about the major culture difference especially if im not really fluent in korean ( so having classes thought in english is a must also).
I was thinking either yonsei or ewha but im not really sure what they specialize in. so im looking for specific universities that specify in either one of these subjects.
thank you!!!!

Hasuk = Cheapest place to stay. You can find one for about as low as US $200 a month. You usually get a private (Insanely small) room, with free breakfast and dinner, usually a tv, usually wifi, and theres a Shared Bathroom (usually one per floor) DOwnsides...

Cellphones = If you know anyone in Korea, get them to sign up for your cellphone. Otherwise you'll have to pay an extra US $200 fee. (and cardphones suck, they're even worse than pay as you go in the US) Also, you can get cheap used phones in Itaewon. Again also
Take a class at a korean language school = even if your korean is amazing. If nothing else, you can take the Uni prep/level 6 class, this class covers alot of words that wont normally be covered in day to day conversation but will come up during class.
Don't try to buy american stuff at regular stores = Costco memberships are golden. I guarrantee you see at least one thing everytime you go there that makes you wanna cry. They also have alot of American stores in Itaewon. Western things in Seoul tend to be more expensive than the korean equivilants.
If you have a favorite shampoo/conditioner/perfume = BRING ITTTT!!! Even if you can find it, it will be marked up ALOT!!!! I cannot stress this enough.
Despite popular belief there is no need to bring = deodorant/toothpaste. Korean toothpaste is just fine, its just some people dont like the taste. As for deodorant, it is really rare, but If you go to The Body Shop (all over the place) you can pick it up for pretty cheap.

Bring medicine - Advil, Midol, asprin, etc. Dont bring cough drops they have the same brands in Korea (Halls, Ricola)
Prepare to drink = Im not a heavy drinker, but in Korea... Soju goes down so easy its not like your really drinking alcohol at all. Plus everyone does it all the time... so just be prepared.

After learning Korean at school , daily dialogue and prose I can understand and
I can understand on average around 70% of TV depending on what they say.. but I lack vocab (i know i gotta study hard myself on that) but mostly is that I can't communicate with people other than short sentences~~
so i thought it would be good for me to spend some time in Korea (3 months ) to learn
I'm thinking about the schools in korea .. where is a good ? Yonsei or SNU or KU .. I've heard that Yonsei KLI is not so communication based.. or I heard Sogang Korean program is actually good??
has anyone who's been there or heard things about that? I really want a good school so i can get the most out of the 3 months i have ! thanks a lot!!!
any advice to give me for Korean learning?? I really want to become more fluent in it! thanks

hi everyone (:
i'm REALLY excited about studying abroad.
even if i'm still a junior in hs-________-;;
haha
i have a couple of questions!
because i am nto in college yet, all i can tell everyone who plans to answer is that i plan to go to a UC..if i can get into one
i plan to major in either predentistry or education. ( i want to either teach english in korea or become a dentist)
numero uno!
- i'm very fluent in both languages, so i was wondering if they don't allow people who are already good at korean to go..
i'm currently taking a korean class and i'm in ap english, which i'm getting a's in both classes. so i was wondering if that will lower my chances of going or restrict me from going at all.. (i read this over and it made me sound like a brat. ahahha i dont' mean to brag D: but most people think i was born in korea, but i wasn't. in fact, i've only been there once in my life-__-; )
numero dos!
-how are the fees and costs calculated?
i know that my cousins who currently attend scripps and columbia often go out of the country to study abroad. to name only a few, they've been to india, france, japan, korea, and much much more. i think i overheard my aunt saying that they didn't have to pay a single penny, so i just thought this might be free of cost, as long as you go to study? haha
numero tres!
- many of you mentioned staying at hasookjibs or an 'i/s house'. since my nationality is korean, a lot of my relatives live in korea. so i'd be able to stay there for the whole time i'm there. is that allowed?
numero cuatro!
-how long are you allowed to stay in korea and study?
numero cinco!
-do you have to be taking a korean class to be able to go? because i'd like to try the korean program out while taking dentistry courses in college. that is, if i can't make up my mind on what i want to do in the future by then -___-;; but all the stories of everyone's experiences is REALLY tempting me! they sound so pleasant and self-rewarding.
once again, i apologize for this being so long! thanks everyone for helping. anddd i hope for y'all who are going this year, have fun and g'luck! (:

#1: so i was wondering if they don't allow people who are already good at korean to go?
Yup, they allow people who already know Korean to go...
In fact, there's an advantage to it because some universities offer more courses that are taught in Korean... whereas, for non Korean speakers like me, I can only enroll in English taught courses.. and there doesn't seem to be a lot. And from my uni, it seems like most people who went and who are going are Korean.
#2: Fees and Costs
I think this might vary from uni/colleges.
For me, I pay my home uni the regular tuitions. And the rest of the fees.. e.g. dorming - I pay the host uni. And other expenses like airfare, food etc. - I pay for that too.
#3: Housing
Yup, you'll be allowed to stay at your relatives ^^;
#4: how long are you allowed to stay in korea and study?
Again, this might vary from uni/colleges..
But for my home uni, they allow me to stay for one or two semesters.
#5: do you have to be taking a korean class to be able to go?
I don't think you have to take a Korean class in order to go... but for Yonsei's application form, they did ask if you intend on enrolling a Korean class. And they also have different levels so I think they can also put you in a more advance class if you are more fluent^^
Hope this helps!

Another question I have deals with the Yonsei KLI program - I believe I read somewhere that it caters to the younger crowd. Are the majority of the students who participate in the KLI program just entering college? I'll be a 3rd year in college next semester, and I'm not sure if my being older than the other participants who have just graduated from high school would affect my experience.
Thanks for your input.
