^ yes it's mandatory. so sad but its their duty. Actors So Ji Sub and Song Seunghun went to the army, i think, last year. a korean frind of my bro told that it's a must. There are cases that even male koreans that came from or grew up at other countries go to Korea just to visit their home country but have their family's name on the list had to stay to serve the army. There is no war but i think it was an effect/result of the korean war in the 1950's. if you dont want to go to the army, have a tattoo coz they say tattooes are a no-no in the army. so i think Junjin of shinhwa who has a tattoo (i'm not sure about the tattoo thing but i saw he has one) doesnt have to go the army as well as Taebin of 1tym.

yesh actually my korean friend is in the canadian army right now because his dad said as a korean you must defend your countr y and sicne he is a CBK he is in the canadian army rather than going to kroea and going to that army but still i haven't seen him for like a year and 8 months. :S

^ okay, agree with you up to a certain point. yes, the 2 year military service is a result of the Korean War. S. Korea and N. Korea are still technically by law at war. So the military service.

I think you got a wrong information about the tattoo thing. Don't know where you heard that information though. I think there also still might be some debate about conscientious objectors too in Korea.

Also, I believe Taebin/Danny Im was born in the U.S. He is an American citizen who happens to work in Korea. I don't think he will be going to to serve.

~ finally, I think we should also support whoever does their service instead of cry about it. They're doing something for their nation and they should get support not saddness. Most of them are probably already feeling grim about doing their 2 year service, and people's saddness will probably not help them feel better. Optimism.

And then give them a groovey welcome when they return.
