So i was planning to get the Sony VAIOŽ CR Series Notebook. But I dont know anything about computers. Yes, I know that is very sad. Some of my friends are saying that sony vaio's are really bad and unreliable. But others are saying that its good and all this other good stuff about it. So i'm totally confused in these mixed reviews. lol

Basically this is what I'm using the laptop for:
-Homework
-Movies

I dont game or anything so i dont need like a good video card.

To tell yuo the truth, I wanted this laptop because it comes in pink but i dont know whether sony vaio's are good in performance wise or laptop life wise... so can anyone help me and tell me if these laptop's are good or not? The price doesnt matter... because the one i want is 1369? i think. I just need to know if these laptops are good and if they last long or something... give me all the details! THANKS

The SONY is nice laptop. Most companies use Taiwanese companies to make their laptops for them, so you may find that most laptops look very similar.

If Pink is your primary criteria for a laptop, then I would think that the Dell 1520./1521 comes in pink and you save some money too!

Most of Sony's products looks nice but they tend not the best performers especially when you take in the price. However, their laptops build quality tend to be above average, i'd definitely go for it

I was debating whether to get that model. But I decided on an HP Pavillion instead. It cost less for the same amount of ram and disk space. More for your money!

viao's are great. nice, bright display and performs very well. they're a bit too fragile to take around, so if you're mobile, then it might not be the best option, unless you get a real good bag that will keep your notebook from taking many knocks.

my only real qualm with the cr in particular though was the keyboard. i really dont like the layout. but to each his/her own!

I would too. Today I just got a Sony Vaio today and I haven't been able to use it yet to tell you which is better, but I'd go for a Dell. All of my computers and laptops in the house are Dells except for this Sony. Dell hasn't let me down. My mom's Dell laptop has been working fine and all she watch is dramas and sometimes I do on homework on there and I haven't encountered any problems. Then again Sony is a lot nicer looking then a Dell tongue.gif
It's all up to you though.

I also recommend that you get a dell... they're pretty inexpensive and reliable (I haven't had any problems with my dell and I've been using it for the past 2.5 yrs), and yes sonys are prettier but I personally think the new Dell Inspiron line looks pretty damn good... and their computers now also comes in pink!

Actually dell is quite decent nowadays. The problem I find with sony these days is they overcharge their laptops a lot for the performance they give. Compared to other brands like ASUS ,Fujitsu, HP, or ACER they give more bang for the buck in my opinon and are all built on great quality just as good as Sony's

So IMO I think you should try to look at some other brands to compare. Sony isnt bad though. if you want the looks go ahead and buy it =]. If you like it for the pink though I should recommend you check out dell's laptop inspiron line as they have many different colours for you to choose from and their warrenties are very good.

if id be you id go buy a samsung, macbook or anything beside sony, hp, dell b/c they are all around the same quality
its not that vaio are not good or reliable
they are among the best screen in term of quality
and for their SIZE they deliver excellent performance
but its also true vaio do have a lot of problems especially keyboard which can cost up 100$/unit
its also more expensive than other laptop with the same specifications because of the sony name

i own a vaio laptop since 1year and half... i have the one that preceed your cr series
now im having problem with the keyboard and headphone plug and some cracking sound from the plastic

if the price doesnt matter then yeah i guess you should just get it
ive heard lots of good stuff about it:
keyboards really good
laptop is sturdy
good sound quality
laptop makes lil noise
screen is excellent

and generally the speed is ok, but will be better if u upgrade the CPU to 2.0ghz

but i heard there's a problem with the battery being loose =\
apparently if u forget to lock it, it'll slip out if u just slightly move the laptop.

The Sony Viao you are looking at is super cute, better than the pink dells.

You can get the same performance with other brands for lower pricing.
Sony's aren't "bad", but they are definately overpriced. The one thing I find most attractive about Sony their product design, the Viao looks really sexy, but is the pricing for design really worth it?

Since you seem more interested in it's style than features without price restrictions, than I think you should go for it. However, the keyboard layout seems very annoying...

Wish I had that much money to spend on a lappy. =)

If all you care about is the color of the laptop and not the performance, splurging an extra few hundred dollars would be a WASTE of your parents' money

You were in the same dilemma that I was in a few weeks ago. I ended up buying the Vaio Cosmopolitan Cr Series in the end.

I have to say I really enjoy using the laptop granted that for its price, you can probably get a better performance laptop. The lcd screen is amazing which is kind of obvious since Sony does specialize in tvs. Aesthetically, it is definitely prettier than most models. The pink with silver lining makes it pop and it is pretty sleek. Dell is bulkier, but you're exchanging style for performance.

I chose the Sony over Dell Inspiron, and I still have no regrets. Good luck on deciding! It's going to be tough. wink.gif

[And btw, I get a ton of compliments for the cosmopolitan color. It's styling. cool.gif ]
such an enticing dream<3

It all depends. The only reason I got a Vaio was because my price range was $1000 and it was a $1300 model on sale for $1000. Lucky me, I do like how it's thin, more aesthetically pleasing, and was better than all the other models. It's also built very sturdy. A couple of my friends have Toshiba's, Dells, and Gateways, and from my experience they aren't very sturdy.
