EDITTED:so last friday i talked to my teacher and she let me made up some points..so now I have a C- 70.9 on my precalc...should I still switch out? because grades are like out in 2 weeks.... and as for AP BIO, my nice teacher says that if we have F's he can mark it as incomplete hoping we can raise our grades in the next grading period..

BUT THANKS TO THOSE WHO REPLIED, GREATLY APPRECIATED EVERYONE OF THOSE COMMENTS!!!

okay, so my schedule got messed up but as of now here are the grades for my classes

pre-clac H- 47%-F sad.gif
econ H-between A-b?
english H- c or d...
film(unwanted elective)- not sure
ap bio- D...possibly,,,
physics H- not sure....

okay...so i've been a 4.0 student up till sophmore...then junior came and I dropped to a 3.67 b/c of all the honors classes i took...and this year... i think its going downhill! i don't know what to do...lits very hard to manage my classes and there's like a test everyday, every week. I'm not really smart...and I don't know waht to do...my pre-calc teach. ever suggested me to go to regualr...but its the same as honors just in a slower pace...so what should i do.... do colleges get a bad impression if you went from 4.0. to 2.0? ughh.... help me please... I'm really scared now tears.gif tears.gif tears.gif

well, if you had done badly last year because of all the honors you took then you shouldn't have taken that many honors this year. it's not about taking all the honors your school offers, it's about balance. but anyways, honestly, it is going to be hard to bring it all back up. but it's only the start, and if you start getting higher scores in class then i think you can manage since there should only be little assignments in your classes.

i would recommend that you drop honors pre-calculus. that F is not worth it just because it's honors or they go faster. my experience with pre-calculus is that if you're not good at math, you do need to go slower. it's better to get a C in normal pre-calculus than a F in honors. between honors and normal classes, i think it really does make a difference. i know, i've been there before too. it does look really bad if your GPA went down that much. but if you can bring it back up, that looks better too.

if you can drop one of them, i would drop either AP biology or physics. it's really hard to manage both of them at once.

anyways, good luck ^^ i don't think it's ever too late to improve if you really put your mind to it.

Me, too, I'm failing most of my classes.

You're making the same mistake I did. Had a high GPA, messed up by taking all Honors courses, and is now going downhill because you don't want to give up said Honors courses. Let them go. I promise you the stress lifted off of you will feel wonderful. Like the previous poster said, it's better to get a C in Advanced than an F in Honors. Pre-Cal's hard no matter what the level, though.

You should drop down to regular Pre-Calc same with English unless you can pull it up to a B or something.
For the AP Biology class, I don't know what to tell you cus at my school you can't drop a class after a certain time. If we drop a class at my school, its an automatic F.

So all I can say is, drop the Honors or pull of them grades.

Colleges do get a bad impression; even though sometimes you might be taking harder classes. However, they will be less harsh if it was a gradual drop instead of a significant drop.

Hire a tutor is my best advice. It does cost money, but, it's an investment.

wow....if just honors classes are killing you, you should definitely drop one..or two..or more. honestly, colleges could care less about "honors" classes. i mean, if you were taking APs, i`d also tell you to get a tutor, but it`s not worth it if it`s gonna mess up your GPA really badly. unless you KNOW you can pull up your grades by the end of the quarter, or semester, or trimester, WHATEVER YOUR SCHOOL RUNS ON, you should not stay in classes that you can`t handle. and if that`s not enough of a good reason, think of it this way. if you drop, you won`t be taking the honors classes, but you will be able to handle the material. understanding things the first time around will probably help you tons once you hit college. think of high school as a foundation for college. if your foundation is unstable, college is going to massacre you. whatever you decide, choose wisely.

colleges will reject you if you do badly senior year. especially in a required course.

you can drop one or two honor courses, or be prepared to have possible rejection letters and/or take summer school at a junior college near by your house.

definitely take the slower course. allows you more time to understand things and work on other classes.

also learn time management and get a tutor. if you need help, don't be afraid to ask for it.

if you're from CA i'm sure that you need to pass 4 years of english and taken econ to be considered for state/UCs

Step it up.

Talk to your teachers, explain the situation, they don't want to be the reason you cannot get into college, tell them you are going to work your tush off until you get those grades up, but that you need their help to do that. Don't make excuses, just state the facts. I am in over my head here, and I am sinking. The only real problem with that analogy is that if you are swimming and you fight it you will sink, to float you would have to give up and relax, lol.. oh well

If you really cannot do it you will probably be forced to repeat your senior year.

Don't worry it's just the beginning of the school year. Start doing all your work and make sure you understand everything. Find out where your problem is. Is it the homework? Or are you having trouble understanding things? Also, colleges would much rather take students that are not 4.0 but those who challenge themselves by taking hard classes. I'm a senior as well and thank god I didn't take all those honor courses. I only have 5 classes biggrin.gif.

WOAH AP bio and physics at the same time?
holy crap!
I took physics hon. last year and I made D's too, and I wasn't even taking another AP science!!
It may sound so cliche, but it is ALL IN THE ATTITUDE. my sophomore year, where I had to take chemistry honors and AP European history, I knew it was going to be hard, so I started the year thinking "I need to work hard, and I KNOW I can do this". and I seriously made the best grades I've EVER made.
and don't forget that most colleges look at SAT scores as a more accurate way of measuring a student's academic abilities becuase it is, well, standardized lol
so hang in there.
You may go without sleep a few nights, but just keep a supply of coffee at your house and you should be fine LOL biggrin.gif

good luck!

Best advice:

you need to do your hw. I'm a senior and I started with a 4.0 freshman year, but then i bombed sophomore and junior year. Now I have a 3.65 and I'm royally john teshed for college. Fortunately, I'm doing really well so far in senior year (all As) and I can bring it up to a 3.73. Still shooting for top schools.

Anyway, do your hw. I have straight As right now and I spend about 6 hours on hw a day. I'm also taking 4 AP and 3 honors courses, so that's probably why I spend so much time on hw. Hw is a huge part of your grade, and it also helps prepare you for tests, esp in precalc. I took precalc last year and it was so hard.

Since its time to apply for colleges, and they look at GPA for the entire first semester, this is NOT the time to slack off! Sacrifice social time if you have to. Bring your grades up.

I am doing my homework, it's an A+ and I alwasy turn in on time...but the problem is they are only 10% of my grade so it deosn't help much compared to the 80% grade of tests..... aishh... I didn't do so well because the teacher last year grades us on 40%test and mostly hw and this year its the opposite..... I've already sacraficed my social time, well, I don't really like going out anyways...but whenver I come home the first thing I do is precalc and it goes on for 4 hours..... for 5 probelms.... lol.... thanks for your advice!
