So yesterday, I bought my first pair of heels that are size 5 1/2 (small feet) and four inches high. Anyway, my Homecoming dance is this coming Saturday and so inexperienced with heels. LOL. Any tips on how to walk in them without looking incredibly awkward?

(and mods, sorry if this topic was already started)

um..try tiptoeing slowly all the time...when I wear heels, I put most of my weight onto my toes and balls instead of my heel..I dunno, it gives me more control and feels like i'll be less likely to trip biggrin.gif

When you walk, step with heels first!
&Yes, practice[:

Oh & walk your heels in cement floor
it helps reduce slipperiness so you won't go sliding everwhere if your walking in tiles.

like everyone said...wear them a lot around the house and stuff to practice
it also breaks the heels in so they're more comfortable to wear, since they'll be more "molded" to your feet

Practice for sure! It's really impt b'cuz you wanna find out exactly how they fit on your feet. You might start walking around and find out that your feet slide forward a lot and then you can't walk b'cuz your heel is slipping out--I had to endure 8 hours of this on my graduation day. sleep.gif With open-toe heels, you put a lot more stress on the front of your feet b'cuz they constantly want to slide forward, so they tend to hurt your feet more quickly than high heel pumps do. Also, look into getting insoles: Foot Petals!!

But y'know at all of my high school dances, the girls always ended up taking off their shoes and running around barefoot anyway lol.

my tip:
-wear them when shopping (or a diff activity where you'll be doing a lot of walking) before homecoming...so you know if they rub you in places you wont want to be rubbed

-if they give blisters or sores, do either these tricks:
-bring cute comfy flats for dancing and the heels for the pictures
-take the picture as early as you can so you can immediately put bandaids to protect your feet right after (i'm sure you wont want any bandaids showing in the picture) in the areas you get blisters on (from observing your feet on the first time you've worn them (from my first tip)).

the other high heels thread should be quite useful but easy reference tips here (:

yup, it really just takes practice, i think. there's definitely time for you to get used to the heels in time for your prom, don't worry! when wearing heels, be sure that the pair of shoes has a GOOD GRIP, and your foot is well-fitted into the shoe. if not... yeah.

your calves/balls of your feet will probably start aching if you wear them for too long (once i wore them for a whole day!) but learn to loosen up your muscles, don't tense up so much while wearin gthem.

you just have to practise lots i guess
i suggest you start off with heels that arent that high first
and slowly work your way up

and if your feet hurt, put gel on the bottom

like others said: practice walking around your home. but be careful.

personally...i'd take them back and get a pair that's flat.
i wore heels to work and out in general 3 or 4 days out of a week a few months ago, and my calves got really swollen. one was swollen for 3 or 4 days after that. and when i'd take off the heels at home, i could barely walk... sleep.gif

practice makes perfect
don't walk flat foooted
the whole shoe shouldn't hit the surface of the floor at the same time ;p
make sure your feet are secure inside the shoe or else you're going to sprain your ankle or something.

just walk around your house. practice walking on different surfaces, like carpet, tiles, concrete, etc.

if they hurt your feet buy those insoles they sell at shoe stores. Remember to bend your knees or else you'll look like you're waddling >_>

hah. that sounds like me. i went from never wearing heels (i mean like NEVER) going to 4.5-4.75 inch heels to job interviews.. man oh man. i thought i was going to lose my feet

you really should practice outside, not inside on carpeting. the effect is totally different.
