&Yes, practice[:
Oh & walk your heels in cement floor
it helps reduce slipperiness so you won't go sliding everwhere if your walking in tiles.

it also breaks the heels in so they're more comfortable to wear, since they'll be more "molded" to your feet

But y'know at all of my high school dances, the girls always ended up taking off their shoes and running around barefoot anyway lol.

-wear them when shopping (or a diff activity where you'll be doing a lot of walking) before homecoming...so you know if they rub you in places you wont want to be rubbed
-if they give blisters or sores, do either these tricks:
-bring cute comfy flats for dancing and the heels for the pictures
-take the picture as early as you can so you can immediately put bandaids to protect your feet right after (i'm sure you wont want any bandaids showing in the picture) in the areas you get blisters on (from observing your feet on the first time you've worn them (from my first tip)).

yup, it really just takes practice, i think. there's definitely time for you to get used to the heels in time for your prom, don't worry! when wearing heels, be sure that the pair of shoes has a GOOD GRIP, and your foot is well-fitted into the shoe. if not... yeah.
your calves/balls of your feet will probably start aching if you wear them for too long (once i wore them for a whole day!) but learn to loosen up your muscles, don't tense up so much while wearin gthem.

i suggest you start off with heels that arent that high first
and slowly work your way up
and if your feet hurt, put gel on the bottom

personally...i'd take them back and get a pair that's flat.
i wore heels to work and out in general 3 or 4 days out of a week a few months ago, and my calves got really swollen. one was swollen for 3 or 4 days after that. and when i'd take off the heels at home, i could barely walk...

don't walk flat foooted
the whole shoe shouldn't hit the surface of the floor at the same time ;p
make sure your feet are secure inside the shoe or else you're going to sprain your ankle or something.

just walk around your house. practice walking on different surfaces, like carpet, tiles, concrete, etc.

you really should practice outside, not inside on carpeting. the effect is totally different.
