Even though it's not 1995, PETA is featuring a naked Alicia Silverstone in a new vegetarian campaign. On the PETA website, Silverstone says:

Like most people, I wasn't always a vegetarian, but I've always loved animals. If you ever have a chance to meet a cow, pig, turkey, or goat, you will see that they are just as cute and funny as your dogs and cats and that they, too, want to live and feel love...Being vegan truly is the secret to my life's joy and peace. I feel physically and spiritually better than I could have ever imagined knowing that I am doing everything I can to reduce animal suffering with simple lifestyle choices like being vegan, never wearing any products made from animals (like wool and leather), and buying only from companies that NEVER test their products or ingredients on animals."

That's really admirable of her. I wish I could be vegetarian or vegan (I'm not sure what the difference is) However, I can't go meatless for more than 2 weeks....it's sad..I don't have that kind of self control.

Anyway, I wonder why she doesnt come out in movies anymore. I remember she was really good in "Crush" ...or I think that's what it was called...it was a while ago..

Don't some vegans go so far as not wearing certain animal products as well? I remember hearing about how a specific type of wool was "banned" because the sheep were treated cruelly during the shearing process ...

(Ah, I looked it up, and apparently the mistreatment is called "mulesing.")

And Joaquin Phoenix is also vegan, and, during Quills, the costume designer was saying how it was hard to make clogs for his character because he couldn't wear leather ...

But I agree. The ad seems kinda ... beside the point.

I think the ad was done artistically....she's not in some inappropriate position and everything is strategically placed. When i think of vegan i think pure and healthy, and i see this vibe off this ad. Maybe it's just me cuz i've done advertising courses and maybe can see whatever they are trying to show but i think they failed with the general audience though =.=

I would sooo want to turn vegan too...but i also have no self control.

thats what they do..advertise their naked bods for the animals... its a good thing although they kind of like being misleading... i too, wanted to be a vegan/vegetarian but i cant stand veggies...they make me go to the restroom and never leave...

Is there a better reason? These animals are BOUND to die by the hundreds and you being a vegan is putting their life in vain more than it is helping them.

Because it's meant to reveal the true her I'm guessing. Clothes cover you up and in a way covers your true-self? It's kinda like I have no secret's I'm giving you me. At least I think that's what they were going for. I like the ad it looks nice, done tastefully IMO.

In her case it might have made her look a little shallow because of the cute reason she used for not eating meat (and her reasons are just plain stupid they should have used a better spokes model) but I really hope you don't think everyone who's vegetarian or vegan is shallow because a lot of people do it for other reasons than cows being just as cute as your dog. There's more to being vegetarian than just that.
