Well I'm a sophomore this year and soon I would need to start taking the act and sat, but when should i take it?
Would it be wise for me to take it this year or wait until I'm a junior and take it?
any advices?
and another question: lets say i plan on testing in May, when would be a good time to start prepping for it? and what type of prep book would i use?
I know they have those "official" books, but are they really that useful?
thanks

The earlier the better. But if you're asking when to take the test, take it when you feel ready.

it is always best to take the subject test right after you finish taking the course in school. my first SAT subject test was in may too. i started preparing in march i think.
i wouldn't wait until junior year to take them all. sometimes you want to retake them and there are only so many months to take the SAT. at first, it feels like there are a lot of months but when you get to be a senior like me or are at the end of junior year, you'll feel like you won't have anymore time.

You should start it as soon as possible so you won't need to cram for it.

most people take the SATs in their junior year and some in senior year. I think it's best to start prepping and take it whenever you're ready. If you were to take it junior year I suggest you be really prepared because Junior year is really demanding and it's going to be hard to focus on the SATs and ACTs outside of your own schoolwork. Or at least that's how I feel. I'm a junior right now and I can't find time to study for the SATs because I'm too busy with school.
So yes, study ahead and take it when you are ready. If you want to take it junior year try taking it early in the year, so your classes don't start piling up the work.

Like Avex said, the earlier the better (studying). I regret not prepping for it earlier. I'm such a procrastinator. Most take the test during Junior year. It would be best if you take it when you're ready.. so you won't be so stressed about it.

i woudlnt exactly take the SAT your sophomore year. the PSAT woudl be sufficient. but i started the summer of sophomore going into junior year and i'm ahead of most of my class. I think its a good time ot start during the summer beucase you put your whoel focus into it. you'll have alot of distractions due to homework and other activities. but thats just a suggestion
