Hi I was wondering if any of you birth control pill users out there knew anything about birth control and pregnancy. Specifically, would you still get your period if you became pregnant while on birth control? Because I heard that the period that you have while on the pill, is not a real period but a "psuedo-period?" I don't really understand, but all I really want to know is if you're going to still go through the period...er "symptoms" even if you get pregnant while on the pill. Thanks so much!

err, if you're pregnant, then you won't really have a real period.

basically, birth control gives your body more hormones and whatnot so that you won't get pregnant. every pack has seven pills that don't have those hormones, which makes you have your period, but you don't ovulate. which means you have your period but can't get pregnant cause you don't release an egg o_o; ahaha. that's kind of weird now that I think about it. but yeah.

in all reality, though there is the possibility, you shouldn't get pregnant if you follow the directions.

I don't think it's "pseudo-period". o_O The pill kinda re-routes your period cycle so that it comes in regular intervals every 4 weeks.

If you get pregnant while on birth control (which is very disheartening b'cuz there's a high chance the baby will be deformed or underdeveloped), you will not get your period. Anytime you are truly pregnant, you will not get your period. You might get a little bit of blood, but it won't be a full-on period blood excretion. But remember that after the initial fertilization, you won't be able to get an accurate test until after the first day of your missed period. And at-home pregnancy tests aren't always accurate, so you should definitely go see a doctor about a pregnancy test! And obviously, if you feel that you're pregnant, get off birth control!

you can still get pregnant. for example, if you are sexually active and you frequently forget to take your pill... that can increase your chances of getting your period or getting pregnant. and when you're pregnant, you can't get your period. if you're pregnant and leaking blood, you should schedule an appointment with your doctor immediately.

you won't have your period if you're pregnant...there's such a thing called spotting, though. if you're new to BC, sometimes spotting happens in between periods and that's normal. you might want to go take a preg. test and just see if you're pregnant...and if you are, companies say that it doesn't do any harm to the fetus.

There is no scientific need for a woman to get a period. The reason there is the "psuedo-period' is to make women feel better. (But its definitely a real period laugh.gif). If you understand the hormonal cycle of a woman's body... it's easy to understand why you'd get your period during the "reminder" days and why you won't get your period if you are pregnant even if you are on the pill. Your period starts after the peak of progesterone hormones in your body begins to fall, but if you are pregnant... the progesterone levels in your body remain high and do not drop... so you do not get your period. If you read the booklet it comes with, it tells you that taking BC pills early in the pregnancy does not harm the baby but if you find out you are pregnant you need to stop ASAP. But the chances of getting pregnant while on the pill is so rare (IF YOU DO IT RIGHT)
