Hi everyone smile.gif
BTW.. I posted this in the soompi network forum, but since I wasn't sure where this best belongs, I'm posting it here too, just in case..
I don't know how you guys feel, but I think that colleges these days are starting to put some emphasis on community service/extracurricular activities/volunteering.
Where I live, high school students are volunteering mainly at hospitals and libraries (and yes, I am one of these people).
BUT..
I think that it may look really great on college applications if I can start a "community-service-teen-group" or something, you know? LoL, sorry, it is so hard to put into words. Bear with me here.
Some things that the group can do:
1] Set up an after-school tutoring/homework help session for elementary school kids.
2] Organize book-drives or other donations (money, supplies, food, etc) for shelters, such as the homeless shelters, women's shelters, animal shelter, etc etc.
3] going to children's hospital (read to them, entertain them, etc etc)
4] that's all I have for now. give me ideas!!

Anyways, the point of posting this is to see how many of you guys would join something of the sort.
Also, I am not sure how to even START forming such a group, so I will need all the help I can get.

Any opinions/suggestions/comments would be great.

Thanks guys ^^

One, go for it if you really think you can commit to it and put much passion into it.

I don't like the myth of "how colleges put much emphasis on 'community service' ". Colleges put more emphasis on who you are, not whether or not you do "ExCric A or ExCric B". If everybody did community service, then it would be hard to pick who to accept. I'm not saying don't do community service, but don't do it with a mindset of "It looks great on your application".

If you want to do something impactful, do something, which very people few have done, that you believe needs emphasis. This sentence is extremely important because there could be something possible for you to do that you may not like at first, but once you do it, you might realize the importance of what you will end up doing. For example, is there a old landmark in town that needs to be discussed about that very people know about? Number 2 might be good.

if you're doing it just for college applications, forget it. that's the worst reason to start a community service club. you have to truly want to do it because you're out to help people. i think these kind of clubs are for people who even if they're going to end up in community college or whatever would still do it. i wouldn't recommend you start a community service club if your school already has ones like key club, interact, or CSF. they all do loads of community service. practically any club can do any sort of community service they want.

i wouldn't join a club just for community service. i would join if it had a specific purpose, like red cross club or UNICEF club or something.

Don't just do it for college apps.
Do it cus you're passionate about it.

& I think it would be easier to start a club at school or something.
I'm actually in the process of starting a club that mainly works with kids in the community & a lot of people are interested in it.

I'm in Key Club right now.
I like volunteering (:
Even if colleges didn't look at hours of community service,
I'd still be doing it because it makes me feel a lot better about myself.

You could go here for info, I suppose:
