I keep getting really bad cramps/spasms in my right leg EVERYTIME I stretch or tense it. I actually broke my shin and ankle bone about 2 years ago and have splints and nails put in to hold the bone together whilst it healed. When the leg cramps were happening at first after I broke my leg I thought it was just part of the healing process and my doctor told me to keep stretching the muscle to stop it from stiffening. Well it's been 2 years and I'm still getting really bad cramps on a regular basis, daily. It's so bad I wake up at night in pain for like an hour. I didn't go to the doctors in the past because I'm scared of what they may have to say. They told me that I shouldn't push myself too hard physically after I broke my leg to stop straining it further, and I didn't really listen to them that much. I'm worried I may have actually done some more damage to my leg. Does anybody know or have experienced anything similar? Should I go see the doctor anyways?
EDIT:
I do drink lots of liquids; at least 2 litres of water a day. I'm on the weight-lifting team so I do try to stretch properly. Could lifting weights be contributing to it? I'll admit I hardly ever drink milk at all though. I've never liked milk.

I get them at night often. I find that if I'm not hydrated enough it happens.
Did you try drinking more water, and maybe eat bannana's which are a good source of potassium.
Otherwise you may need to stretch more. If your muscle didn't heal well from the breaking it could be all bunched up around that area. I think with stretching and good hydration/diet you can overcome this.
Best of luck! Otherwise go see a doctor, they can't do anything but help.
