when i had a permit, my parents let me drive under their insurance.

it depends on your insurance agent really....but if they know that you have a permit and is driving that car...most likely they'll put your name onto your parent's insurance, which will change the premium a bit...but if they don't know about it and you don't drive it often, like only with your parent in the car with you...you don't HAVE to....but like i said if your agent found out...they will mostly put you on there because that's part of a lot of policies for insurance companies....but yea...if you drive it once in a while here and there like to and from school...then not really...not until you officially get a license...

^^^Yeah, check with your insurance agent to see if it affects pricing and how it works out. I've been insured since the first day I got my permit, so I'm not sure...better safe than sorry.

I never needed insurance to drive when I had my permit. It was never in the booklet either. Its just when you get your license and start driving independently. 'cause with your permit you're still learning so it is the parents responsibitly if you crash the car when you have your parent...it's partially their and yours fault..but you're still learning. You gotta make mistakes. So I doubt it.
