Sleeping With The Window Open now i'm sick!

My roommate sleeps with the window open
and i wake up in the morning, NOT to my alarm clock but to goosebumps on my skin
and chills down my body. btw, i sleep with two really thick korean blankets and im still cold
our school.. at night it goes as low as 50 degrees but its a LOT colder than that. there's the cold breeze too

i know that cold AIR won't give you A cold
But i've been waking up with sore throats/coughs because of her
and i know its because of the open window cause its only on the days she leaves the window open at night
btw, we've already tried talking, but it just wont work

SOOOO I DID RESEARCH!
"You can get a sore throat from sleeping with your mouth open, and if there is cold air blowing into yet all night, yest that can cause your sore throat"

can you guys help me research how sleeping with the cold air with a cold draft
will give you a sore throat/ cough

(heh.. im too nice a roommate sleep.gif im always the one giving in... but yes, help me find scientific evidence!)

Why don't you try NOT being a pushover and asking for them to close the window.
BRTC Jasmine Water BB Cream SPF 30 for sale, 50$ (includes shipping). US only, bought from softpeachy, got too tan for this, otherwise I would use it. I've used it three times (i was trying to be optimistic about the color thing) only. PM me! I'll take paypal or concealed cash.

you should try asking your room mate why she always keep the window open. I personally sleep with my windows open and I sleep right under it. I sleep with my mouth open sometimes but I don't get sore throats.

ive already asked her
pintsized : if you're going to be mean instead of helping, just don't post at all please. thanks.

in fact we have a compromise to leave it open all day and night
until we study (around 12 am) ~basically whenever she wants
but when we sleep, it must be closed (only when we sleep tho.)
btw it is about 50 degrees here at night and by the ocean so it is very cold

BUT when i fall asleep she gets back up and opens it
and i wake up to the cold drafty air. and im on the weak gets-sick-easily person
ive been asking her nicely about this such as "hey! do u think u can keep the windows closed at night? im erally cold and i have a sore throat/ coough now."

but its not working. (and i would prefer a nice, suggestive way to talk to her. especially if i have some scientific stuff so it feels mroe legitimized)

keep it half open?

if the top of your bed faces the window.......then sleep the other way....away from the window.....
you know what i mean ? 0.o

or you could ask her to swap beds?
i dont see how it effects only you and how it doesnt effect her...

the cold makes you less immune to getting a cold i think.....

>_< its breathing the cold air that makes my throat get dry, sore and produces the cough
but it doesnt give me a cold, like the flu

i sleep the other way, away from the window

but here, even if u leave a slit open it is just as cold
cause i live near the ocean
so yeah @_@ really cold, especially at night >_< and early morning (12-6 am)

Buy a bodysuit. With the footies and hoodie attached.

Then wear it and post pictures. And you're cold will go away for sure!

Cold temperature makes you susceptible to the influenza virus as cold temperatures lead to drier air, which may “dehydrate mucus, preventing the body from effectively expelling virus particles” (WHO Weather and the Flu Season). The virus may also survive longer on exposed surfaces (i.e. doorknobs) in colder temperatures. Therefore, living in cold temperatures may increase the likelihood of getting sick.

This information came from the World Health Organization as cited. I don't know if it's sufficient enough to make your roommate close your windows, but I hope so.

or move the bds.. because then there a built in closet T_T
(shes also really dirty and messy, which i dont mind. but yeah... im a super neat freak and im being patient about it, but she hasnt taken out her trashcan for like 3 weeks now... it stinks... and theres like dust balls on her desk... and its like coming to mine, which i always make sure is clean and not dusty_ SIGH.

lol
go to the doctor
or get new pjs and blankets
theres something wrong if you're not producing enough heat for the stuff to insulate
or maybe you're not covering enough of your body

you have a loser for a roomate
go tidy up her desk and take out her trash just once and she'll get the idea

Go to a doctor and get a note or something saying that opening the window is causing you to get coughs and stuff. If she doesn't listen then maybe you should try doing something she doesn't like.

Is there only one window in the room? My former roommate used to sleep with the window open (she got overheated really easily) but we had two windows side by side, so she just opened the one closest to her bed.

Im with chuchan on this one. Your roommate really is a jerk to open the window in the middle of the night like that. Why doesn't she sleep without a blanket or only sheets? That should cool her off.

This reminds me of a similar event. I have a friend (he is fat). He always gets hot because he is fat. Not trying to be mean, just stating a fact. When we were in Vietnam for vacation, he had the air conditioner running while we are sleeping at such a cold temperature (~60 degrees?) I was shivering. He wouldn't compromise with me. Jerk. Yes my friend is a jerk.

ahhh help me. dude my roommate is crazy. it is lFIFTY THREE. 53. yes FIFTY THREE degrees out right now. seriously as i write this my fingers are cold and numb. I am wearing really thick winter pj's AND a sweater and two socks. i cant even study because of how cold it is. I am literally shivering and goosebumps down my spine. and i FINALLY caught a cold. and its not JUST 53 degrees. its 53 degrees and the ocean wind is PAINFUL. its so feraking cold. @_@ she basically has the window open and i asked if she could close it and she keeps making excuses. not even yes or no. and guess what she does? she takes out an extra blanket. i asked her WHY. and she said shes cold. So i asked her "ok. then can u close the window?" then she says "no. i like the cold air." she is freaking @_@ and im already using 3 blankets now. and a heating pad. but the air is unbelievably cold that it seeps into your bed anyway.

she is crazy. seriously. (i mean i know other things about her that make me come to this conclusion, but WOW i just... @_@ shes also really dirty. like i dont even want to egt into it. it is DISGUSTING stuff, im telling u. PLUS sigh >_< i needed to rant ) seriously i just want to go shut the window now. but its like. she never sleeps. she sleeps with one eye open. and if u move. shes like O_O what?

You could close the window when your room mate sleeps and open it just before she wakes up? Lol.

Hey, could you guys give a link to that website, the one that says the cold air dries your throat out?

I have the exact same problem with my roommate. She's perfectly and utterly anal. Can't sleep with typing or the desk lamp on and keeps the window open. She opens it halfway but I still wake up cold even though I'm in warm pajamas and covered in those huge asian comforters and a sleeping bag.

There's no real nice way to approach her about this. You've tried and it fails. Perhaps you could talk to the resident director or something? We have our meetings next week and it's totally not going to work out if she wants that window open. I wake up with sore throats and goosebumps too but she refuses to close it no matter what. So I guess resident assistant and "I'm getting strep throat it's CONTAGIOUS" it is. I have a history of getting those so hopefully that shuts my roommate up and makes her close the window. She got herself sick and she's STILL sitting in front of that open window that blows in cold air.

-sigh- But yeah, you could always say that you're getting strep throat and that it's contagious. Say you have a history of getting them. You could also print out the articles and show them to her. That's what I'm planning to do at the resident assistant/roommates meetings. biggrin.gif Gah she drives me insane!! Sooooo inconsiderate. sleep.gif;

Do something that'll tick her off when she's sleeping so you guys are even. LOL.
Don't do that. Give her the weather report from Yahoo!
You are too nice of a roommate. My dad is the same type.
If the wind is blowing like crazy and all windows are closed, my dad will say "Open the windows, it's so stuffy in here." TT.TT
