Well, for my college it is anyway. Instead of having 5/7 day meal plans, we also have 55-75-whatever number/block meals meal-plan.
If you don't have a kitchen, it is DEFINITELY WORTH IT. Even though it's really pricey, at least you will have a place to eat all the time. If you DO have a kitchen, you better put that kitchen in use! :] Meal plans are VERY expensive.

meal plan IS required.
at least at my university it is.
i think it's a good way not to starve...
BUT I BASICALLY STARVE,
cause the food here aint that great.
good to be fed, but then again, oh well.
beggars may not be choosers, right?
dui.
i would say, worth it cause i wont starve,
but not worth it because i can spend that meal money on something cheaper and better.
but, oh well.

Wait.. school didn't start for you yet?
You already know that on campus housing is already very expensive, right?
It's approximately 10 grand a year. (excluding meal plans at some schools another 1-2 grand)
Deciding whether you should do on/offcampus housing based on meal plan is not a good idea.
You should decide whether or not to live on campus by your:
-Convenience
-Transportation
-Time management
-Finance (if you got the monaaayz)
You should live on campus if:
You have really bad time management - it will be convenient for you to live on campus because your classes will be just right there. If you don't have a car, you don't have to worry about getting to class. However, living on campus is really expensive.
Offcampus:
Living offcampus is WAAAAYYY WAAAAYYY WAAYYY!!! CHEAPER than on campus, and plus you have the freedom to eat whatever you want. You will need to find transportation to get to campus, however. If you have classes back to back, you will have to bring your own lunch which could be inconvenient but at least you will get to eat what you want.

You can't eat on the weekends! I thought that plan meant any 5 days of the week!

Hey you :], you can use your flexidollars to get in, or have a friend to use a guest pass on you.
If you really don't want to eat dorm food, you can always purchase food elsewhere at cafes/pubs etc. Or take the bus offcampus to wherever.

okay, first of all i have a meal plan (75 meals and 100 flex $$). i've already used up like 3 of them. anyways, 2 of my apartment mates don't have meal plans and it costs freakin' $7.00 for lunch and even more for dinner!! Even though it's all you can eat, we don't even eat that much so it's a waste of $$. so instead, we go over to Lee's Sandwiches (which is pretty close) and grab us each a sandwich and it's a HECK of a lot cheaper than a friggin' meal plan and it fills us the same.
So, my point is consider your environment...

it's definitely worth it. u save urself the trouble of not having to cook and when u get sick of the food, u can always cook yourself or go out to eat. a lot of my friends were sick of the dorm food last year but now we all miss it. i don't know about ur school, but for our school if you live in the dorms, the meal plans are really cheap compared to for those off campus

After eating dining hall food for almost a week, I'm glad I chose the 5-day meal plan!
I don't like eating out anymore (reminds me too much of dining hall food) but I have some healthy snacks to munch on during the weekends and my friend lives in an apartment so I can always go over to her place and cook! ^___^

well- it comes down to 200+$ a month when i do the math... i don't think it's worth it
plus the majority says it's not worth it... i'm not picky at all so i dont think i'll get tired of the food but it just comes down to the $$
my cousin who also goes to the school seem to have plenty of time to make food and buy food...
i've already considered transportation and everything else i guess... : )
