Well, I would recommend Mandarin but since you can't...
Go for Arabic or Japanese.
From a business/economics stand point, those would be very useful.

Hmmm . I'm not sure if your school allows , but maybe you should try appealing in . Like say that though you're a Chinese you don't speak Chinese and it's definitely gonna be beneficial cos China's coming up .

Take .. Tamil ! Lol . I don't know but I've got a feeling in time to come they'll come up soon too . Their people are really good at technology . sweatingbullets.gif

u sure they don't allow u to take mando? don't assume, no uni would do that. anyway, since ur doing international business, mando would be highly recommended with the current situation, hence why lots of professional americans are starting to learn chinese.

Mandarin and Japanese are probably the best bets....

Also if you're planning to maybe change your major into international relations over international business, Arabic and French could be better bets than Chinese or Japanese.

Take other asian languages.
Japanese, Korean, etc...
I think Korean would be easier since it is 80% of Korean phrases are similar to Chinese.

take a language that you are interested in.

mandarin is actually a good choice what with the chinese economy boom and all, but since you cant... i would think french or german, to be able to communicate with those European countries which are more comfortable with those languages.

That doesn't make sense...why would they automatically bar you from taking Chinese just because you're Chinese? Are they aware that you speak very little of the language? At my university, they have tests thta you can take before so they can find out your level. I'm Japanese, but I'm in a similar position to you, I speak very little of the language. I took the test, and I guess they find out that I really DO need to take the language, and I'm not just someone in it for an easy grade ^^;

I would say Japanese or Chinese;
I'm taking Japanese at the moment and it's really quite useful. Hehe (:
Korean would be a nice language to learn too-- but since you are taking a language and learning it
Choose the one that you are really interested in ^___^

~*~*~*~

Choose either Japanese or Spanish. Chinese if you can.

Japanese:
Because they have a great, strong, economy, specially electronics.
Plus they have cool stuff, gadgets and such.

Spanish:
Because it's spoken in Europe(Spain), Latin America, and Asia (Philippines).
It's going to be the 2nd most spoken language by 2020.

Chinese:
Because it's the most spoken language in the world.
There's like what, 2 billion Chinese speaking people?

That's silly that they won't let you take Chinese. Chinese people make up like 1/4 of the world's population, and China is a rising economic power. I say try to take Chinese, or Japanese if you can't. But Korean is really easy to learn, the alphabet is way more simple than Japanese.

but since my school is too small it doesnt offer french..
so before i answer i need more info.. smile.gif

spanish if you can't take mandarin since it's a really important language for business.
but you should definitely take chinese outside if you can't in school since it's almost like a necessity in the business world, well in my opinion anyways tongue.gif

I agree.
There are so many countries that speak Spanish & if you learn Spanish, you can kinda understand Italian too so you can learn 2 languages at 1 time. I've been taking Spanish for about 5 years & I can sorta understand Italian.
But thats not the point.
The point is that since you know one Asian language, you should take a language in a different part of the world.
Learning Korean isn't going to benefit you as much unless you're planning to go work in Korea (I'm not trying to be racist with this comment. I'm Korean myself)

I actually benefit a lot from being trilangual (English, Korean & Spanish).
Last time I was looking for an internship under a professor at UCI & there were a lot of candidates, but he picked me & my friend because we were both able to speak Spanish.
Maybe it'll be able to benefit you too!
