some schools require none
most competitive schools require 2
and some very very selective schools require 3 (e.g. princeton)
you should research some schools before you take them... maybe you dont want to go to schools that require 3
and some majors and schools within the university (e.g. buisness or engineering) require certain subject tests...so...look into that
hope i helped

most schools require two. but if you're going to major in something math/science related, then they want you to take math iic also.

Most schools require 2 subject tests (UC's, some privates) while other schools (usually Ivy-league levels) require 3. I think collegeboard has the facts for different colleges about what's required to apply, so check there. Also if you know where you want to go to school, check their website. You can always take 3 in case you do well on 2 of them and poorly on the other one. (: Also, as stated previously check to see if you need specific subjects to get to the school. For example, I'm pretty sure Caltech requires Math 2C. Major-specific requirements may also apply so again check the school website. Hope this helps~!
