QUOTE
There are two naturally occurring isotopes of silver that exist in approximately equal proportions.
One of these is 107Ag. Which of the following must be the other?
106 Ag, 108 Ag, 109 Ag?
Explain.

Can someone please help? I've been going at this question for a while now. Thanks in advance smile.gif

This is just a guess, so you be the judge whether it makes sense or not.

If you look at the periodic table, the atomic mass of silver is 107.8682 amu. It's between 107 and 108, so the other isotope is probably 108.

The atomic weight is an average of the isotopes of the element. Therefore, since the 107Ag is given and the atomic weight is 107.8682 amu. It should be 109Ag. 108Ag would make the atomic weight more in the 107.5ish area, but with 109, it would be around the 108 amu mark. So, 109Ag is correct. smile.gif
