Do you think I should wait a week or two to see if it heals or gets better? I don't want to tell my mom because she'll freak. Also there's no signs of hereditary cancer in my family. If I wait I just can't really eat or drink anything, it really hurts though. >__< Thanks for reading!

Diagnosing yourself of an illness through the Internet is ridiculously hard and almost 100% inaccurate. I'm serious. You could have a case of the hiccups and the Internet sites (even those 'reputable' ones with "MD" in the name) will be like "ESOPHAGEAL CANCER... your prognosis is six weeks" or something ridiculous like that. You can get canker sores anywhere. It is a bit uncommon to have them on the roof of your mouth, but I suggest you wait about a week to see if it resolves on its own. If it doesn't, then go see a doctor. You might have a bacterial infection (does your breath smell?) or something else that can be taken care of with antibiotics. Personally, it sounds like what happens to me whenever my "hot chi" rises... i'm sure there's a real medical explanation for it, but my palate gets all swollen and it hurts to touch it or when food or my tongue/teeth rub against my swollen palate. Then I just drink as much water as humanly possible and stay away from spicy/hot foods for awhile... usually resolves itself in a week or less.
Of course, if this really concerns you... get it checked out by a doctor. My friend had some weird spotting on her tongue and her doctor just gave her some topical treatment, but about 2months later, it was still there and she had to get a biopsy and she ended up having to get surgery.
[And if you're really concerned about the cancer thing, unless you're in like metastatic stage 3 or 4 (which is practically impossible because you're not really showing organ failure or abnormality), one week is not going to make that much of a difference. the degrees of danger are usually counted in months, not weeks or days]

I know what Nanshi is talking about lol. Sometimes my gums jsut sweel up and hurt like a pinkberry, but eventually it heals within a week or so. A white spot could mean cancer though, based on all those pictures I've seen of tobacco chewers...
We love you unnie, please keep watching over us.

so best way to find out? see a doctor.
all the research and assumptions will get you nowhere, and
will most likely make you stressed and worried anyways.

if u do, then that is really a prone cause for smokers even you don't have cancer genes in your family.
u don't get anything on SMOKING. at least drinking alcohols/wine once in awhile you'll get good benefits. -__-
