" Okay, so my internet hasn't been working for one week now. WOO,.....
I don't know if it's the internet (sbc yahoo) or netgear's problem...my computer connects with an adapter to my parents computer and it was always fine, but one morning i wake up and i can't go online! I even rebooted my computer...i don't know why i was stupid but obviously it didn't do anything
It says that the network cable is unplugged? And......yeah please help

Okay,
Does the internet work on the other computer?
Yes then its not SBCs fault.
No then its going to be fun fixign this.
How does your computer connect to your parent's computer? Wired? Wireless? Direct to the computer or through a hub, switch, or router?
Once we figure that out we can have a better understanding on how you are supposed to be connected.
Lets try the obvious... let us assume you are connected with a network cable to a router. Can you follow it from the back of your computer to the other end to make sure its connected and not chopped in half somewhere?
If it physically looks okay, then we can either look at this as a flaw with the source of your connection or your connection. Source as in the router or computer you connect to has incorrect settings or your computer needs some fixing. Maybe go to the device manager and uninstall your network adapter and reboot to see if it fixes it or just buy a $10 network card and be done with that.

haha hey cathers... i thought you already fixed the problem (or at least called netgear tech support
)... but i guess not, i was never that good at networking so hopefully awdark can help you more than i could...
awdark: she has a netgear tray app running alongside the windows built-in networking tray apps... the windows tray icon will show excellent signal strength whilst the netgear tray icon will show no connection/red screen...
i thought the SSID was correct but WEP settings were wrong (it was disabled at the time she PMed me)... but still no luck after copying the WEP keys from her parents' working connection settings...
she got a connection when she unchecked the WEP option again on her end but the stats showed that although data was being sent, not much was being received so i continued to think it was something to do with the WEP so i just suggested that she double-check the WEP settings, making sure that the right number of encryption bits are being used... and that's where our convo ended...
at the time, i thought her wireless adapter was connecting straight to the router and not through her parents' computer... so now that i know, some extra ideas may be to randomly try:
-switching to point-to-point/ad-hoc instead of infrastructure
-disable the windows wireless management if it's not needed for anything else
-either that or run through network setup wizard again
-make sure all networking and internet explorer connection settings are set to auto
other than that i wouldn't have a clue... what do you think?

IcIc...
In the windows settings page, go and uncheck the option to use windows to do the wireless management. They call it "wireless zero config" and that is a utter pain in the ass. You can try to get them to work happy bubbly together but I usually dont try and use the utility that came with the card.
If you want to try to get them to work together you should make sure BOTH utilities have the proper WEP keys and ssids. That is because they are both battling for the connetion and sometimes windows is a pain and would disconnect the other utility because the wireless zero config wants to maek it "EASY" for you to get it working.

it's wireless btw....andddddd........
my dad also used a laptop and that has a wireless adapter also, but a couple of days after mine couldn't get online HIS was like that too..now BOTh can't get online
i dunno what else to do...messed with all the settings (they're back to the default right now), turned off n on the router that didn't do anything....tried sticking the adapter in different places on my computer that didn't work either....lol *sigh*

since both dont work now, just reset the thing.. setup a normal WEP key and secure it frm there.

>_< turn of pc with a router? From the sound of it its not running windows XP...
Do you have a very geeky member in your family that used a old computer and turned it into a smooth wall linux firewall/router?
If you don't know, just unplug and wait then plug it back in. Brutal yes, but efficient.
