Hello all,
I do require some help here... I downloaded 2 files of an episode of a particular drama and they come in xxx.wmv.001 and xxx.wmv.002 respectively. There are no other files that came with the download. I can actually play xxx.wmv.001 using Windows Media Player but I cannot fastfoward it. However, I cannot play xxx.wmv.002 at all. This message appears when I try to do so.
"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."
Is there something that I need to do to perhaps combine these 2 files into 1 so that I can play the whole episode as a single file? Help provided will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

there's a very popular program called winrar that makes a big file smaller, and at the same time splits it up into several smaller files for easier downloading...
e.g. it will split "largefile.wmv" into segments with the following names
largefile.wmv.001
largefile.wmv.002
largefile.wmv.003
largefile.wmv.rar
if this is the case for the files that you've downloaded, then you'd want to open "largefile.wmv.rar" in winrar and it'll let you extract the complete file out... so find and download winrar (could be somewhere in the stickies, not sure)... you'll need to have the entire set of segments to be able to extract the file, winrar will tell you if you're missing any segments

Thanks for your reply boka!
I was still not able to somehow extract these 2 files together using WinRar. I actually do have the program and I did read other troubleshooting tutorials regarding files like xxx.wmv.001 before deciding to trouble someone else here. Heh. Thing is I don't have the xxx.wmv.rar file, like what you mentioned. It's really strange but I guess I should try my luck downloading from other sources.
Anyhow, thanks for your time! It never fails to amaze me how helpful people in here can be. =)

Try extracting from the .001 file with winrar. A lot of times it just depends on how the person decided to compress the files. I know you can just have 1 2 3 4 without the one rar file too.
If you are sure it should have the rar I suggest you go to the forum or place you dled from and make a request for the one file

I don't think those are rar files
Use hjsplit to join the files

OR...
you can try deleting the .001 and .002 from the filename and see if it plays..

i was also thinking that the file could've just been split in two, but from memory, winrar should also be able to join them back up... i think
so yeah, maybe an incomplete series of files...
have you been lurking?
