A computer in my house just went cranky. My brother was using it and he said all of a sudden it restarted by itself and the Internet connection went kaput (on that computer only). There used to be an icon on the desktop for Local Area Network. Now it's gone. Could that be the problem (no more LAN)? How can I get the LAN thingy back?
Please help.

control panel > network connections > enable LAN (if it's there) or set up a new network

I'm just hoping that there's nothing wrong with your network card

Cuz an old one of mine died and I had to replace it

But mine only said "network cable unplugged" or something

Your NIC might've died.

They're cheap these days.

haha you 'n your brother rolleyes.gif

maybe you can try going into control panel ->perf & maint.->system->hardware->device manager and make sure none of your networking hardware has been disabled from there...

you can also have a look in the computer to see if the network card has become loose or something, although i've never known this to happen

Freaking security updates.

I believe it. Service pack 2 pretty much stopped my modem configuration. I had to re-install it, and it still didn't work.

Ended up just taking out the freaking update.
